I looked quite the couple.
The maitre'd had led us to a semi-private table for four, and I pulled out Brianna's chair for her before settling into one adjacent. We kept sneaking little flirty looks at each other as we perused the menus. And then just after our waiter poured the wine, Brianna giggled and asked,
“Still think this isn't a date?"
I conceded it might be a date and Brianna made her Taco Bell comment.
We were just about ready to order and Brianna was taking a new sip of her wine when she suddenly froze in absolute shock, her mouth gaping and her eyes wide open.
I followed her line of sight and turned just in time to see Danielle, quite dolled up herself in a green dress, looking our way with Cherys right beside her.
"Dani?" I asked.
The girls left their hostess behind and walked straight over to us,
Dani looking oddly from Brianna to me and back before saying, "David?"
Cherys was the fastest to recover and held her hand out to Brianna, saying pleasantly, "Hello, I'm Cherys." The raven-haired beauty's eyes were glowing as she evaluated my dining companion
Stammering, Brianna managed to look away from Danielle long enough to shake Cherys' hand and answer, “Brianna. Uh... pleased to meet you."
Danielle, for her part, was still in shock as she looked Like what amounted to a brunette clone of her. "Uh, David... who is this?"
It dawned on me that with everything going on, I hadn't really told my sister about the Brianna situation. Danielle knew about Amber leaving soon, but since even I didn't know exactly the nature of my relationship with Brianna, I'd never really spoken about it outside of
Amber, Kevin, and Jen. I cleared my throat. "Danielle, meet Brianna.
She's my friend from Beckman Engineering. Brianna, I've told you about my sister Danielle."
The two looked at each other a little uncomfortably, uneasy as they evaluated the doppelganger before them. In the silence, the maitre'd stepped up.
“Would you ladies care to join your friends? Or shall I show you to your table?"
“We'll stay here, thank you," Danielle quickly answered and then she took the seat next to Brianna while Cherys went in the fourth spot between me and her girlfriend.
The awkward tension between my sister and my ‘friend’ was getting thick so I tried to cut through it quickly.
“Look, I'm sorry I haven't told you about Brianna just yet. Things are just a little complicated.”
“I'LL say, you look just like me," Danielle answered while Looking at my companion. Then my sister blinked a few times and took a deep breath.
“But, that's no reason for me to be impolite. I'm sorry to intrude on your dinner. We can leave-"
“Oh, no! Don't." Brianna immediately put her hand on Danielle's. "I've been wanting to meet you for a while. And like David said," she looked over at me. "We're just friends."
Cherys smirked. "Friends dressed to the nines at Palluconi's," she deadpanned.
"Well..." Brianna gazed Lovingly over at me.
