“Magic Missiles? Here on the school grounds? Who did this?" she looked around the crowd, but everyone looked away.
“I'm afraid my Goddess will not grant me the ability to lay on hands for another twelve hours. There is little I can do. He needs the infirmary and their healers. Quickly," said Jennifer.
Gwydion took a long look at Jennifer and then ignored her. “Jasmine.
Amber. Heal him."
Jasmine wailed. "We can't! We don't know how! Why won't our magic work?"
Amber had tears running down her face as she focused solely on Amy.
Gwydion growled. "Amber! Forget Amy. She's just had her nose broken.
Daniel is dying. Focus on him. Together!"
Amber looked at Gwydion with anger and refused to change her focus from Amy.
Gwydion slapped her hard on the face. "Pay attention! Leave her!
Focus on Daniel! If he dies, you will all suffer for it! Do you not understand? He is your spell caster! Protect him! Heal him! It is your duty!"
Amber reeled from the slap and then glared at Gwydion.
“Go ahead, girl. Challenge a full witch. Try it.”
Amber's fury rose.
Jasmine slapped Amber across the face. “AMBER! FUCKING HELP ME!"
Amber looked shocked at Jasmine.
“FUCKING HELP ME, YOU BITCH!"
Amber looked down at Daniel. Smoke still rose from his burnt clothing.
The stench of burnt flesh toyed with her nose and made her gag. She could see the angry red and black flesh where the orbs had burned into Daniel. She could see the white of his exposed ribs. A need to throw up overwhelmed her, and she leaned away and threw up her breakfast.
Gwydion cursed. “Fucking useless, just like your mother. Fine! I'll do it!"
Gwydion placed her hands on Daniel and closed her eyes. Her eyes opened for a moment and Jennifer saw the little smile that appeared quickly and disappeared.
"What are you doing?" asked Jennifer.
"Healing him," growled Gwydion. She started chanting, and the gathered crowd stepped back further.
Jennifer watched her closely, her hand openly on the hilt of her sword.
