“See? I stopped. Don't be mad at me."
Trying to suppress the urge to pinch his cheek hard, Evelyn asked,
“Where's the orange peel?"
He looked back at the man on the operating table and grinned.
“Inside his body. I taught him a lesson."
Evelyn's eyes widened and she couldn't believe her ears.
"You shouldn't treat him like this. He didn't do anything wrong..." Calvert's only fault was that he Liked her, but he had never done anything to hurt her. Although she was very angry with what happened in the car that day, Evelyn thought that Sheffield shouldn't have punished Calvert Like this. Moreover, Sheffield had already crashed Calvert's car. That was punishment enough.
Sheffield grasped her arm and walked out of the operating theater, leaving the rest of the work to his subordinates.
"No, he did do something wrong. You just don't know about it yet. It's okay. I won't blame you for this, but you can't blame me either. Compared with what he did to me, this is only a mere warning for him!"
“What did he do to you?" Evelyn stopped and Looked at him in confusion.
Turned out, Sheffield wasn't only avenging her; he was avenging himself as well.
He didn't want to worry her, so he replied perfunctorily, "It's all right. It's all over. His plan didn't work anyway."
“What do you mean it's all over? Stop trying to dodge my question!”
Evelyn was a Little annoyed because Sheffield had childish tendencies of seeking revenge for the smallest of grievances.
The playful smile on Sheffield’s face disappeared.
“You don't believe me?"
“That's not what I meant. Listen, Sheffield. I've had a long day at work and I'm exhausted. I've had to rush here at this hour of the night because of you. Have you thought about me at all?" Evelyn was starting to lose her temper.
He pulled her into his arms and gently patted her on the back.
"Yes, it's my fault. I am terribly sorry. I shouldn't have worried you. I shouldn't have told Rowena about what I was doing..
"Sheffield!" Evelyn interrupted him angrily.
"Can you really not see your mistake?"
“Yes, of course I can! Why else would I apologize to you? Hey, you've been very snappy tonight. Are you on your period?" Women tend to be more emotional during their menstrual periods. With this thought in mind, Sheffield realized he needed to be careful about what to say next.
"I'm not! I hope this will never happen again in the future, and I don't want to see you hurt another person! Even if it's just a small thing in your perspective.”
“Evelyn, you've misunderstood me. He..." Sheffield was about to say that he had already shown Calvert enough benevolence, considering how he tried to take advantage of her that night.
But right then, Calvert walked out of the operating theater. He put his hand on the cut on his waist. He'd already heard what they had said.
