He shrugged her off, adjusted his clothes, squinted at her and said nothing.
Seizing the opportunity, Evelyn asked someone to help Roscoe to his feet and get him out of there.
Evelyn whispered to Felix, “This is on me. Get someone to clean this up, and I'll foot the bill.”
“As you command, Miss Evelyn."
Evelyn turned to talk to Sheffield only to find he was already headed for the door.
Without any hesitation, she followed him and called his name.
Sheffield walked faster. It was apparent he didn't have the slightest intention to wait for her.
“Ah! Evelyn's cry of pain made him stop and whirl to face her.
She leaned against the wall, nursing her ankle. Anguish marred her lovely features.
She looked at the man in front of her, showing sadness and grievance in her eyes.
“It's my ankle. I think I sprained it."
Sheffield's heart softened.
He closed his eyes helplessly, walked up to her and gathered her in his arms.
"What did you think you were doing?"
Evelyn cradled his neck and complained, "Following you. You walked too fast, and didn't wait up."
When Sheffield took her to his car, Joshua opened the backseat door for them and reminded, "Be careful."
After settling Evelyn in the car, Sheffield got out.
Then he turned to Joshua.
"I'll take her home. Get a cab."
Joshua couldn't believe his ears.
"Planning on burning your bridges behind you?" But after a glance at Evelyn, he conceded, “Fine. You're the doctor." He waved at Evelyn and said, “Bye, Evelyn."
"Thanks, Joshua."
"You're welcome. Bye!" He then left.
Sheffield got back into the car. He put her ankle on his legs and took off her shoes before turning on the dome light and the flashlight on his cell to check her injury carefully.
“Does it hurt when I apply pressure here?"
