Then, Effie's voice burst through. "Nope, not busy at all. What's up?"
Yearning to share her plan of reclaiming Jerrold, Lilah pressed on.
"Where are you, Effie? I'm bringing Jerrold back tomorrow."
“Lilah, we're playing outside. Wait, you and my brother are back?"
Effie's voice grew louder with excitement.
Because of the past incident, any mention of "playing outside” ignited Lilah's concern for Jerrold's safety.
“Yes, we're back," she said, rising from her seat. “Effie, I'll pick up Jerrold tomorrow."
Effie interjected, “Lilah, no need to trouble yourself. I'll drop Jerrold off in the morning and swing by the film set tomorrow afternoon."
Lilah was insistent. "We've moved. Tomorrow morning suits me fine. I'll fetch Jerrold and then head to the company."
Effie didn't insist when she heard everything was arranged. "Okay, just give me a call when you're on your way. I'll text you the address..."
Before Effie could finish, Jerrold's cheerful voice broke in. "Auntie!"
“Sweetie, come here. Your mommy's calling." Holding her phone, Effie called out to Jerrold.
At the mention of his mom, Jerrold's face lit up, and he hurried over to Effie, shouting into the phone, "Mommy!"
"Jerrold, sweetheart. Have you been having fun at your aunt's?"
Lilah's voice held a smile.
"Yes, Mommy. When are you picking me up?" Jerrold asked eagerly.
"Tomorrow," Lilah replied, her voice warm.
"Okay, Mommy. I'll be waiting!" Jerrold's excitement was palpable.
Despite enjoying his time with his aunt, Jerrold still longed to be with his mom and dad.
"Okay."
With the plan set, Lilah ended the call.
The next day dawned bright and early.
After slipping into fresh attire, Lilah turned to Gerard. “Off to get Jerrold," she announced.
Gerard simply nodded in acknowledgment. “Alright.”
Downstairs, Lilah swiftly made her way to the car, ready to embark on her journey to the address Effie had sent. With her phone in hand, she dialed Effie's number. "On my way," she informed her.
Effie's voice came through the line, sounding slightly surprised.
“Lilah, you're quick. I just got up."
"Yep, ten minutes tops," Lilah replied, her eyes fixed on the road as she drove.
Effie's voice softened with concern. "Have you had breakfast yet? I'm making breakfast now. Jerrold's just up.”
“No, thanks. Already had some. I'm driving now; let's talk later,"
Lilah replied.
"Alright. Drive safe and let me know when you arrive," Effie said before hanging up.
