Lilah hung up the phone.

More than ten minutes later, she picked Jerrold up and they both went to the company.

As they walked into the company, her hand tightened on Jerrold's. She said in a soft voice, “Jerrold, take care, okay?"

“Don't worry, Mommy." The little boy smiled reassuringly at his mother.

As soon as they entered the lobby, a familiar voice from behind made her hair stand. "Lilah!"

Her initial shock wore off quickly and she walked faster toward the elevator.

Matthew, however, refused to give up and went after her, shouting, “Lilah, I know you don't want to see me, but I have something very important to tell you today. Just give me a few minutes, please.”

Actually, today was Lilah's birthday. He watched her managing the company his father left behind, and watched her supporting the whole family as well.

His mindset was slowly changing, and for the first time, he felt proud of her.

Matthew was the last man Lilah wanted to see, but they were in the lobby and she knew it would be bad for business if many people saw them acting this way. “Let's talk upstairs," she said coldly and stepped into the elevator.

Just like a child, a broad smile sneaked onto Matthew's face and he rushed after her. "Okay."

The atmosphere in the elevator was quite uncomfortable.

Matthew glanced down at Jerrold and asked, “Lilah, is this my grandson?"

His question was met with silence.

The elevator soon stopped on the top floor.

As the doors opened, Lilah walked out with Jerrold's hand in hers and Matthew trailing after them.

As soon as they entered the office, she put her things in order on the table and went straight to the point. "I'm listening. What brings you here?"

“Lilah, today is your birthday. I want us to celebrate it," he answered.

She turned around sharply at the mention of her birthday, her eyes full of aversion. "No, thanks."

Celebrating her birthday with her father at home was all she had ever wished for on every single birthday.

She would wish for a birthday cake and long to see her family sitting in front of her and singing her a birthday song.

But every single year, her father disappointed her.

Now that she had grown up, she didn't care much about her birthday.

“Your birthday only comes around once a year, Lilah. Come on! I already booked a room. You can go with my grandson!" Matthew pleaded.
