Catching her gaze, Gerard conveyed the unsettling news. “Someone broke into the prison and rescued Adaline this afternoon."

"What?" Lilah's expression shifted in response.

Who might come to Adaline's rescue? Helga seemed improbable, and Lilah struggled to identify anyone else with a connection to Adaline.

In hushed tones, Gerard revealed, "They're intensively searching, but no leads yet. Tomorrow, two bodyguards will be assigned to protect you and Jerrold."

Lilah grasped the seriousness of his words. “Alright, ensure Jerrold's safety."

"I understand. I'll take Jerrold to school tomorrow and handle everything when I return," Gerard replied with consideration.

Lilah nodded.

The sudden turn of events quashed her appetite.

She couldn't comprehend the reason behind Adaline's rescue.

The following day, as Lilah prepared to depart, a knock echoed through the apartment.

Opening the door, she was greeted by a man and woman clad in black suits, radiating a commanding presence.

Their professional demeanor was evident.

Before she could utter a word, they chimed in unison, “Good day, ma'am. We're here to see Mr. Harris."

Lilah moved aside to allow them entry and then turned to Gerard, who was seated on the couch. "They're here for you."

Gerard glanced up as the two approached and directed, “Starting today, you both stay close to Lilah. Keep within a hundred paces of her at all times."

They nodded in acknowledgment, "Yes, Mr. Harris."

Gerard's tone turned grave as he added, “In case of an emergency, take charge immediately and ensure her safety."

“Yes, Mr. Harris," they affirmed.

Having given his instructions, Gerard reassured Lilah, “Call me if you need anything."

Lilah nodded, even though she felt like a storm was brewing.

"Well, I'm off then," she said softly to Gerard.

Gerard nodded in understanding.

Lilah left, followed by the two bodyguards.

Just as Lilah was about to get into her car, she suddenly stopped in her tracks. She had just remembered something she forgot. Turning to the duo that were following her, she asked them, "What are your names?"
