"Yes." Walter nodded firmly. “It's all been taken care of."
"Really?" Effie asked in a tone filled with skepticism.
She had a feeling that Walter wasn't being honest.
But Walter maintained his stance. “Yes, there's no other woman in my life apart from you."
“Then who was that woman hugging you at First Mall?" Effie asked as the memory of the incident entered her mind.
“First Mall? A woman hugging me?" Walter murmured thoughtfully. But after thinking for a moment, he began to explain, "That person..."
Effie swiftly cut him off. “Don't you dare tell me that she's your sister," she warned sternly.
“I swear, I have nothing to do with that woman," Walter insisted.
Just then, his phone began to ring. He looked at the caller ID and put down the phone without answering the call.
But Effie was able to catch a glimpse of the name of the caller: Perla, and her anger flared. “Why don't you answer it? Feeling guilty?" she shouted accusingly. As far as she was concerned, the name sounded very feminine.
Walter really wanted to clear things up, but it was clear that Effie was in no mood to listen right now. He could not understand why she was being so difficult. After all, they'd been together for quite a while, so they should be more understanding toward each other. But at the end, no matter what he did, Effie still refused to believe him, and this chilled his heart. "Effie, don't you trust me?" he asked exasperatedly.
"How can I trust you?" Effie retorted. "Tell me, how can I? Why didn't you answer that call, eh?"
ALL of Effie's pent-up emotions were now bursting out.
Walter looked at her, feeling very hurt. Without a word, he stood up and walked away.
Effie watched him leave, feeling even more distrustful of him. In fact, her eyes were beginning to sting with painful tears. Just as he got to the door, she yelled after him, "Walter, we're done!"
With that, she slumped over the table and began to cry her heart out.
Walter heard what she said and it caused a sharp pain in his heart.
But he didn't say anything. He simply got into his car and drove off.
Meanwhile, after she had exhausted her tears, Effie began to think.
But the more she thought, the more wronged she felt. Eventually, she pulled out her phone and began to look for a confidant to whom she could pour out her heart.
After a while, she decided on Lilah.
The moment the call was connected, Lilah asked, “Effie, what's wrong?"
“Lilah, I'm so done with Walter," Effie declared, sobbing afresh.
“Effie, please don't cry," Lilah said comfortingly. “Have you talked it out with Walter yet?"
