Half an hour later, the event concluded.
Lilah watched as Effie approached with a spring in her step and a smile on her face. “Effie, your performance just now was exemplary."
With a playful grin, Effie replied, “Lilah, I owe it all to the confidence you helped me find."
Lilah gave Effie a reassuring pat on the shoulder and said, "Remember, confidence is something that you have to find within yourself.”
“Ha-ha!" Only in Lilah's presence could Effie let her guard down and laugh carefreely.
Amidst their conversation, the event coordinator held back her embarrassment and sidled up to them. “Effie, your performance today was truly impressive! The director has sung your praises."
“I'll thank him later," Effie responded, maintaining a composed expression as she concealed her jubilant spirit.
The coordinator, with a hint of awkwardness, continued, "Effie, who was the genius behind your makeup today? Could you introduce me?"
Lilah stayed quiet, observing the exchange.
Effie, her expression souring, sharply retorted, “Is that any of your concern?"
“It's not, I suppose." The coordinator, embarrassed yet aware of her task, found the courage to continue, “The director is eager to recruit the makeup artist who created your stunning look; he sent me to ask about it."
Effie replied, her tone both firm and distant, "That's a matter between the makeup artist and myself. I'll pass the message along. You're free to return to your duties."
“Effie, you..." The coordinator was a bit angry. Effie didn't give her a chance at all.
With an icy glare, Effie challenged, “Is there a problem? Are my words unclear?"
“No, of course not. Just make sure to pass on the message." With that, the coordinator departed, visibly frustrated.
Once the coordinator was out of earshot, Effie turned to Lilah.
“Lilah, opportunity is knocking. Are you interested?"
Lilah, moving toward the exit, answered dismissively, "No, I'm afraid I must decline. I'm overwhelmed with pressing matters; I simply don't have the time."
"Then I'll handle it. I'll speak with the director," Effie stated as she followed Lilah.
“Okay." Lilah nodded in agreement.
As they left the hall, Lilah readied to depart, bidding Effie farewell. "Effie, I'm heading out now."
"Thank you, Lilah," Effie expressed gratefully.
"My pleasure," Lilah smiled.
She then drove back to the downtown.
