Karol, the wind howling around them, pleaded, "I'd fall without something to hold on to. Can't I stay just until the wind eases?"
His response was stern, an unequivocal boundary set. "Release your grip, or I'll have no choice but to take drastic measures."
Gerard's warning sent a shiver down Karol's spine. As she released her hold, a wave of imbalance swept over her, sending her crashing against the rail with a painful thud.
She stifled a cry, while he, unfazed, secured himself against the tumultuous ship and made his way back to the cabin.
The gale eventually subsided, granting the ship tranquility and a steady course.
Gerard, now seated and reflective, found his thoughts wandering to Lilah.
It hadn't been long since their last encounter, but to him, it felt like an age had passed.
Curious and longing, he initiated a video call to Lilah.
She picked up promptly, her image framed by the backdrop of her office. "Still working?" Gerard inquired with a raised brow.
"Yep," came Lilah's gentle voice. “It's a never-ending cycle here.”
"Consider a pause," he advised, concern lacing his tone. “Overworking is a silent thief of health."
Lilah's face softened with understanding as she acknowledged his concern. Intrigued, she inquired about his progress. "How close are you to your destination?”
Gerard couldn't help but smile. "Not much longer now-about an hour away."
The conversation ended with a mutual expression of care, Lilah cautioning him, "The sea can be unforgiving. Please, be careful."
Lilah was well aware of the significant risks associated with sailing on the sea.
“Lilah, I promise," Gerard said. "Just don't overexert yourself."
Hearing her words of concern, Gerard felt a surge of happiness in his heart.
"I understand."
“Lilah, I miss you so much right now," Gerard confessed, his smile bright.
Just then, Karol entered the cabin, placing her hand on her waist, perfectly timed to catch Gerard's heartfelt words. She gazed at Gerard, seemingly captivated by his smile.
What was so special about Lilah? How had she managed to capture Gerard's unwavering loyalty? Was Lilah truly deserving of such an exceptional man?
In Karol's eyes, she and Gerard were meant for each other.
“I'll call you tonight, Lilah," Gerard promised.
“Sounds good," Lilah replied, her smile lingering even after hanging up.
