"Very well."
At twilight, following her departure from the hospital, Lilah drove to the food street.
Parking her car at the street corner, she headed straight inside, intending to bring back some snacks for the evening. It was a good idea to occasionally have a change from the usual supper fare.
A variety of food options lined the street.
As Lilah was nearing the snack stalls and passing a noodle restaurant, she suddenly heard someone say, “Go away! Where do you come from, beggar? You stink! Stay away from me!”
“Could you kindly assist me? Acts of kindness yield positive outcomes."
Lilah glanced over and noticed an elderly man with a white beard stationed before a table, seeking aid from a middle-aged man who was enjoying a bowl of noodles.
Next to the middle-aged man was a woman dressed in a flashy way.
She covered her mouth and nose with a look of disgust, saying, “Leave! Darling, please move this old man away. He's so smelly.”
She had just purchased her dress and now felt it was musty.
What bad luck!
“Darling, I'll drive this guy away immediately. Hang tight." The middle-aged man charmed the woman.
The woman beamed with satisfaction. "Excellent."
Meanwhile, the old man continued to hope for a bit of kindness.
“Young man, I have one dollar here. Could I purchase your bowl of noodles?"
"Are you serious? One dollar! Leave now! Leave!" The middle-aged man, slightly incensed, rose to shove the old man away.
With undue force, the middle-aged man toppled the old man to the ground.
The elderly man hit the ground, his face drained of color, his hands trembling, and his head shaking violently.
Witnessing this, the middle-aged man showed no fear. Instead, he cursed furiously, “Go and perish elsewhere, not at my table. Your demise is none of my concern!"
He then said to the crowd, “I barely touched him, yet this elderly man is now on the ground, falsely accusing me!"
Upon hearing these words, Lilah could no longer bear it. She stepped forward.
Assisting the elderly man to his feet, she noticed his trembling hands.
"Sir, are you alright?"
The elderly man's lips quivered. "I'll be fine."
