The warmth in the restaurant owner's heart radiated as he looked up at Lilah, his smile genuine and heartfelt. “Don't thank me. seeing a kind-hearted and compassionate girl like you today has lifted my spirits."
“Hatha.”
Lilah chuckled modestly at the compliment.
Rising gracefully, Lilah made her way toward the window, her voice gentle as she spoke. “I'll invite the elderly gentleman inside to wait. Then I'll take my leave."
"Okay." The restaurant owner nodded with understanding, his demeanor accommodating.
Lilah stepped outside and found the elderly gentleman patiently waiting. With a warm smile, she extended an invitation. "Sir, please come inside with me. The restaurant owner will serve you some noodles."
“Thank you, but no. My clothes are dirty. I'll wait here to avoid making a mess inside." Seated on a stool, the elderly gentleman smiled warmly, graciously declining Lilah's offer.
Lilah's heart swelled with empathy for the elderly gentleman. Without hesitation, she approached him and, disregarding any concern for her attire, gently helped him to his feet. “It's alright, let's go," she reassured him.
Initially resistant, the elderly gentleman hesitated to rise, but Lilah's persistent kindness and encouragement proved irresistible.
Slowly but surely, he relented and finally stood up with her assistance.
As Lilah guided the elderly gentleman indoors, she noticed that the owner had just brought out the noodles, setting them delicately on the table.
"The noodles are ready, Miss. Please have a seat, sir." The restaurant owner's eyes gleamed with warmth and genuine kindness.
Lilah conveyed her heartfelt gratitude to the restaurant owner.
As she spoke, Lilah assisted the elderly man in settling into his seat. "Sir, please go ahead and enjoy your meal. I'll take my leave now."
The restaurant owner suggested, “Why don't you sit down too and share a meal? I'd be happy to prepare something for you."
“No, thank you, sir. I'll be on my way now." Lilah retrieved some cash from her purse and placed it on the table as a gesture of gratitude. With a final glance, she turned and walked toward the door.
As Lilah stood on the bustling street, she felt the summer breeze carrying a hint of heat, making the atmosphere slightly uncomfortable.
She glanced toward a nearby snack stall, contemplating buying some food there, when suddenly, the chime of her phone interrupted her thoughts.
Lilah retrieved her phone and noticed a call from Gerard. Answering with a smile, she inquired, "Gerard, have you finished work?"
On the other end, Gerard's voice, soft and low, replied, "Yes, I'm cooking a stew at home. How about you, still at work?"
“Why do you want to eat a stew?"
“Don't you enjoy it?"
“I'm done for the day. I'll head home soon." Lilah's heart swelled with happiness. This feeling of being cared for was new and comforting.
It felt warm and secure.
