In the past few days, Effie and Walter always conversed on the phone as soon as they were available.

Lilah frowned. "What's the good news, then?"

“Lilah, I'll explain later. Goodbye." Effie was about to end the call, but then she remembered something and asked, “Lilah, have you and my brother had dinner? If not, let's dine together, my treat."

Upon hearing that Effie was delighted and planning to invite them for dinner, Lilah sensed there was indeed cause for celebration.

Though curious, she refrained from pressing for details. “Your brother prepared a stew. Dinner is served!"

Effie's excitement over the stew prompted her to exclaim, “Lilah, wait for me! I'm on my way."

"Okay."

When Lilah ended the call, Gerard asked, "Is Effie joining us later?"

Lilah nodded and settled on the sofa. "Effie mentioned having good news. She should be here soon."

"In that case, I'll fetch one more set of utensils." As Gerard moved to retrieve the utensils, Lilah quickly intervened, saying, "I'll go get it. You can take a rest."

Gerard smiled in response, saying nothing.

Lilah retrieved the utensils and placed them on the table.

As they awaited Effie, Gerard's phone suddenly chimed. Glancing at the news alert on his screen, he turned to Lilah with a smile and inquired, “Lilah, did you offer help to someone earlier?”

The timestamp on the news was nearly ten minutes before he had called her.

Lilah hesitated briefly, and then responded, "Someone needed help. I couldn't just ignore it."

"Next time, prioritize your safety," Gerard advised. Despite knowing Lilah could defend herself, he still worried about her getting hurt.

Lilah could sense Gerard's concern so she lightened the mood with a jest. "Alright, I promise. Next time there's a situation, I'll call you."

"Okay."

Gerard simply nodded in understanding.

Meanwhile, Milly seethed with anger as she scrolled through the news about Lilah online.

“Lilah! This bitch!" Milly's thoughts dripped with venom as she gripped her phone tightly, her eyes burning with hatred.

Unable to directly confront her nemesis, Milly decided to target those close to Lilah instead.
