Effie's eyes welled up as she whispered into the phone, "When will you be back? I really miss you."
Walter could hear the emotion in her voice and felt a warm rush of joy. "I won't be gone much longer. I'll call you before I head back."
"Okay."
Once they hung up, Effie couldn't hold back her tears anymore.
Seeing her upset, Lilah tried to comfort her. “Walter's only gone for a while. He's not leaving you forever. You're like a little kitten crying over here!"
Effie wiped her eyes and nodded. "Yeah, I know."
After chatting a bit more, they reached downtown. Lilah dropped Effie off at the film set and then returned to the office.
The second Lilah stepped into her office, her phone rang.
It was Gerard.
“Hey Lilah, you guys back yet?" he inquired gently.
She leaned back in her chair and replied, "Yeah, I'm back at the office now. Effie got the part she wanted."
“Awesome. How about catching a movie tonight?"
Lilah thought for a moment, considering it. "A movie, huh?"
"Yeah, there's one playing tonight that's supposed to be really good."
"Alright, let's go after work."
Lilah realized it had been a while since she'd gone to the theater.
A little spontaneity would definitely keep the relationship fresh.
“Cool, see you later," Gerard said.
“Take care," she responded, ending the call.
Lilah was ready to dive back into her work when she suddenly remembered Trent was still hospitalized. Handing off her tasks to Emma, she made her way to the hospital.
As twilight settled over the city, Lance was heading home from work when a stone flew at his windshield.
Jolted, he pulled over and stepped out to investigate. Finding no sign of anyone nearby, he muttered angrily, “Who throws rocks at cars like this? Seriously..."
Before he could finish his sentence, someone grabbed him from behind, smothering his mouth and nose, dragging him into the darkness.
Lance's eyes grew wide in terror as he tried to scream, but the sound was muffled and weak.
