So that was his intention!
Matthew had caught wind of her association with Gerard and sought to ingratiate himself.
“IT don't need your help," Lilah responded flatly.
"Don't be hasty. I've arranged a dinner tonight. You're to bring Gerard, understand? Also, your grandfather left a letter for you before he died. You've been wondering about its whereabouts, haven't you?"
Lilah's breath hitched at his words.
When her grandfather fell ill, Lilah had been in college. She'd rushed to his bedside, where his eyes had been heavy with unspoken thoughts. In the end, he had said, “Lilah, there are many things I can't say in front of you. I'll leave you a letter."
“Okay, Grandpa," she'd acquiesced then.
But he'd passed away abruptly, and Lilah, grief-stricken, assumed there was no letter. Now, it seemed Matthew had withheld it.
“How can you disrespect your father this way, Matthew?" Lilah challenged, seething.
"He was my father. I decide how to handle his affairs. But the letter is untouched. I'll hand it over if you bring Mr. Harris," he replied without a shred of guilt.
Lilah inhaled deeply. "I'll see what I can do. But I can't promise Gerard will agree."
What secrets lay in her grandfather's letter?
She couldn't let this chance slip by.
She texted Gerard, who responded, “Okay, but I may be tied up."
Lilah replied, "No problem. Please prioritize your work if you're swamped."
After work, Lilah made her way to her father's latest property.
He'd bought a new villa. While not as grand as their former home, it was still opulent.
Inside, delicious smells wafted from the kitchen, and Matthew greeted her with a broad grin. "Lilah, you're back at last. Dad has been eagerly anticipating your arrival."
Helga and Adaline lounged on the sofa.
Adaline's attire was almost enough to make Lilah recoil.
She wore a plunging black camisole that revealed much of her cleavage, paired with a skirt so short it risked indecency with her every move.
A flimsy blouse was her only attempt at modesty, making her look more provocative than chic.
"Has Mr. Harris not arrived yet, Lilah?" Adaline inquired, her tone dripping with coquetry.
“Have you switched careers now?" Lilah responded, her words laced with sarcasm.
