Lilah harbored no fondness for Karol, suspecting that Absolon's character might reflect his daughter's upbringing.
Lilah hesitated; she didn't want to save someone she deemed unworthy.
After thinking for a while, Lilah asked Gerard, "Do you think he's a good guy?"
"From what I've observed, he's a decent man. You've encountered him before,"
Gerard assured her, implying Absolon's inherent goodness.
Someone who could be so affectionate couldn't be all bad.
With a nod, she said, "I share his blood type. I can donate blood to Mr. Morris."
Gerard was taken aback by Lilah's abrupt decision.
However, he realized it was too late to persuade her otherwise.
His expression shifted as he reluctantly followed Lilah to approach Absolon.
The nurse looked on with concern and asked, “Are you sure about donating your blood? If the blood types aren't compatible, it could cause serious issues."
"I'm certain," Lilah confirmed. "The doctor once mentioned that my blood type is quite rare, which is why I remember it."
"Please come with us."
The nurse acknowledged with a nod. She knew that there was a shortage of this rare type of blood and appreciated that someone was willing to donate, which was crucial for the hospital and the patient.
Yet, the nurse hadn't anticipated that not only Lilah but also Absolon's assistant and Gerard would all be boarding the ambulance.
“Miss Phillips, if your blood donation saves Mr. Morris today, I will be at your command from this day forward!"
The assistant grasped Lilah's hand, shaking it vigorously in thanks.
Lilah was too stunned to respond. Luckily, Gerard, with a stern look, pulled her hand away.
The assistant's loyalty was remarkable! Lilah sighed inwardly, yet her attention returned to Absolon. Her decision to donate blood wasn't solely influenced by Gerard's words.
She had always felt a strange familiarity with Absolon, and thoughts of Matthew surfaced again. Absolon, like Matthew, was also a father to someone.
"Joselyn..." Absolon whispered so faintly that it was indecipherable to others.
"It seems that Mr. Morris is trying to say something," Lilah remarked, puzzled.
The assistant, wiping away tears with a handkerchief, explained, "Miss Phillips, Mr. Morris is deeply in love with his ex-fiancee. He often calls out her name when he is unconscious."
"Joselyn..."
