Lilah took her phone back and checked. It was from Effie. The siblings were certainly a handful.
"I should take this." Lilah aimed to extricate herself from Gerard's grasp, and the incoming call provided the perfect pretext. She gestured for Gerard to step aside, and then proceeded to answer the phone.
“Lilah, why didn't you disclose earlier that you were Windy? How could you conceal this from me for so long? I've been bragging about endorsing you, but it turns out you don't need one at all!"
Effie's sharp voice resonated through the phone.
Gerard undoubtedly heard every word, yet he merely glanced in Lilah's direction, offering no comment.
"Please, calm down. You never inquired either."
"And now it's my fault? Does Gerard know about this?"
"Yes, I believe so. He's also present at the competition site."
"What!" Effie exclaimed.
"And to think you went to such lengths to confess to him. I question if he even deserves your confession!"
Gerard grabbed the phone and said coldly, “Say another word and I'll end this call."
Effie remained silent for a long while, refraining from responding to Gerard immediately.
“Lilah, why didn't you tell me Gerard was right beside you? Did he overhear everything?"
Lilah glanced at Gerard, who appeared to have been placated, his hand resting on her thigh.
"You didn't give me a chance to inform you. What's going on? Why did you ask if I was Windy?" Lilah countered, her curiosity piqued.
"Oh, nothing particular. I'm just boring and wanted to chat with you," Effie said.
"Gee, aren't you supposed to be pretty busy?"
Lilah was aware of the demanding schedules typically imposed on artists under Flurry Entertainment, particularly Effie, being one of the most renowned.
“Lilah, can you stop getting on my nerves? Alright, my company sent me to ask if you'd need me to be your brand ambassador. Frankly, I don't think anyone is worthy of your reputation, Lilah," Effie explained.
Lilah couldn't help but be amused by her bluntness. "You're quite the smooth talker. Well, I'll consider it," she replied casually.
Effie's eyes widened in surprise. "Really?" she exclaimed eagerly.
"Yep. It's been on my mind. In a few days, my company will be launching new products, and we'll need a brand ambassador to promote them. You're the top candidate," Lilah explained.
Karol had been overly confident, her preparations meticulous, but she never anticipated her defeat.
Effie chuckled with a hint of mockery. “Karol Morris is in for a rude awakening. She's been hyping up the event, but little did she know, it's actually benefiting you. I'll throw a celebration party for you once I'm done with my work. Just don't tell my brother..."
