After hanging up, Lilah hesitated again, wondering whether to call Absolon.
Karol's hostility was clear, and Absolon didn't seem too fond of her either.
While Lilah pondered, a notification on her phone caught her eye.
“Miss Phillips, here's Mr. Morris’ number in case you need it."
The message came from Absolon's assistant. Lilah acknowledged that he was exceptionally clever and insightful.
She sighed and accepted the truth, and then dialed Absolon's number.
“Lilah, have you finally made up your mind?"
"No." Lilah hadn't expected him to be so direct. With a hint of embarrassment, she said, "I'm here to thank you. The trending topics... It's a bit too much. You don't need to spend so much."
"It doesn't matter," Absolon replied, dismissing the cost as trivial.
"It's only a small amount of money. It's worth it if it helps you with your issue."
Then Absolon said cautiously, "So, have you decided about becoming my daughter? Lilah, I promise the entire family will welcome you. If it makes you uncomfortable, we can relocate."
Absolon never saw himself as a man driven by wealth or power. He was even prepared to forsake it all for the sake of love.
Yet, in his younger days, he had committed an error that might never be amendable.
Thankfully, fate was kind and God led him to his true daughter. He was eager to offer Lilah everything.
"It's not necessary," Lilah sighed and smiled. “If you truly welcome me, I'll return with you. However, my current life is pleasant, and I prefer not to disturb it."
Eventually, everyone had to face their origins. It was inevitable.
Absolon was a decent man. Initially, Lilah hadn't planned to disrupt the harmony of the Morris family. Yet, she remembered how Karol, Absolon's adopted daughter, had schemed against her when he was critically ill.
At that moment, Lilah made up her mind. If Karol could be so heartless, why should she hold back?
“Have you really made up your mind?" Absolon asked, his voice filled with happiness. "Don't worry, you just need to visit me from time to time. I won't meddle in your relationship with Mr. Harris-no, with Gerard."
As he was about to say more, Lilah quickly intervened, saying, "Well, let's discuss this later. I have some matters to attend to here. Oh, and please stop purchasing trending topics. We already have enough spotlight."
Absolon consented without hesitation. After ending the call, he programmed Lilah's number into the second spot on his phone.
The number on the first spot had remained disconnected for many years.
"Mr. Morris, should we notify your family to organize a gathering?" the assistant asked.
Absolon shook his head and replied, "No. I don't want to overwhelm Lilah. Let's see if she can settle into the family first."
