"Then why have I heard that your grandmother doesn't like you?"
Gerard asked, his gaze piercing, as if seeing through her facade.
Lilah felt utterly powerless.
Having a boyfriend who excelled in every aspect was truly a vexing challenge.
Her attempts at deception had all failed.
“Don't worry. I'll treat them the same way they treat me. After everything, if I still can't protect myself, then I am indeed too weak."
With a gentle smile, Lilah closed her eyes, memories of the past washing over her.
“No matter what happens, I will always stand by you," Gerard reassured her, a look of relief softening his features.
That night, Lilah slept soundly.
When she awoke at seven in the morning and made her way downstairs, she discovered Danna and others were already enjoying breakfast.
“Lilah, come join us," Absolon called out, beckoning her over.
Danna and Karol exchanged glances, a hint of displeasure flickering in their eyes.
Lilah paid no mind to their disdain and took a seat beside Absolon.
"The bread looks yummy," Lilah remarked with a smile.
Seeing her contentment, Absolon felt a sense of relief. “These were specially made for you. I'm glad you like them. I'll arrange for the driver to take you to work later."
But as soon as he spoke, he remembered that Lilah had her own car and was an excellent driver, which dampened his spirits a little.
He lamented the lost moments when Lilah needed his care and assistance the most.
"Alright, I don't feel like driving today." With a look of surprise, Lilah said, "Thank you, Dad."
Across the table, Karol sneered softly, her thoughts venomous.
To her, Lilah was nothing but a shameless sycophant, willing to say anything to curry favor with Absolon.
“Karol, you should eat more. With the Taekwondo competition approaching, you must be in peak condition. Have you begun your training?" Danna asked casually as she set down her tableware.
Karol's face lit up with a smug smile. “Don't worry, Grandma. I've been diligently practicing all along."
Danna patted Karol's hair with a look of satisfaction.
Casting a glance at Lilah, who was eating with unrestrained enjoyment as if she hadn't had a proper meal in ages, Danna cleared her throat lightly. "Lilah, if you like the food so much, I can have the maid cook for you every day. You'll never leave the table unsatisfied."
