"Let's wait for the doctor's report first."

Over an hour later, the doctor emerged from the emergency room.

"He's allergic to mangoes. Did he have any recently? While he's stable now, he'll need an IV and observation. It could have been much worse. Be more careful next time. Children are delicate." The doctor's brow creased in disapproval.

"How is that possible?" Absolon was utterly baffled.

He'd personally overseen the dinner menu, ensuring everything was safe.

He'd even reiterated instructions to the staff.

“I want a thorough investigation," Lilah declared, her voice steely.

"You suspect Dad?" Karol feigned disbelief. "Lilah, that's ridiculous! He meticulously planned the whole menu himself!"

Lilah rolled her eyes subtly, refusing to be baited.

"We need to get to the bottom of this," Absolon growled, his anger simmering. "Someone in this household has been malicious."

Lilah and Absolon exchanged a glance, a silent understanding passing between them.

His unwavering support, a testament to his fatherly love, warmed her heart.

"Gerard, you stay here with Jerrold," Lilah said after a moment.

As an outsider, it wouldn't be appropriate for him to delve into the Morris family affairs, and he wouldn't be familiar with the layout.

It was best for her to handle it.

"This is bizarre," Danna muttered, her voice dripping with suspicion.

"Who knows? Maybe she's the one who messed with her son's food and is now trying to pin it on us. She's got no conscience, that one."

Karol remained lost in thought, offering no reply.

Sensing an unsettling atmosphere, Danna turned to granddaughter, her gaze tinged with suspicion. "Did you..."

"Grandma, please refrain from such talk." Karol's voice lowered. “How could you even suggest that? I may not care for Lilah, but that doesn't extend to her child."

"That Little child is lovely. It's his mother who's the problem, a disgraceful woman not worth mentioning," Danna remarked with disdain toward Lilah, sighing heavily.

Silence settled between them as they rode home in the car.

Lilah was the first to return to the Morris estate, followed closely by Absolon. They conferred briefly before summoning all the household staff.

Fourteen maids and six male servants lined up, their expressions reflecting confusion.
