Absolon said, attempting to calm her.
But before he could finish, Danna erupted.
"That's it. Enough!" She jabbed a finger at him. "Ever since Lilah showed up, have you even taken Karol and me seriously? Karol is your daughter too. You've raised her for over twenty years. It's bad enough you didn't believe her. But now, you doubt me too. I can't figure out what this bitch has done to you!"
Absolon sighed in resignation.
Seeing his dilemma, Lilah felt the urge to throw in the towel.
But Absolon wasn't about to give up on any clue. "Mom, if your clothes are clean, I'll apologize."
His mind was clearly made up.
Danna was trembling with anger, but she knew it was futile.
She sneered, pointing at Lilah. "Fine, check my clothes. But if it turns out I'm innocent, she owes me an apology."
Lilah nodded firmly. "Agreed."
Absolon had always been her support. She couldn't burden him further.
Danna retreated to her room, stripping off her clothes and handing them to the maid for the doctor.
ALL eyes were fixed on the elegant clothes.
Lilah felt a knot of anxiety in her stomach.
If Danna was innocent, it meant Lilah would have to defer to her in the future.
“Is everything okay?" Absolon's voice trembled.
The tension in the room was palpable.
After a heavy silence, the doctor slowly lifted his gaze.
“Mango powder residues cling to Mrs. Morris' attire."
The doctor's utterance elicited shock from all, Danna included.
"What absurdity are you uttering? Check more carefully. How could Mango powder possibly adorn my clothing?" Danna retorted furiously, gesturing toward the doctor.
"Have you been induced to conspire against my grandmother? She's unfortunate. Eagerly anticipating meeting her great-grandson, yet now unjustly accused!" Karol protested with indignation.
However, internally, she panicked. To avoid entanglement, she resorted to deflecting blame onto the doctor.
Wearing a grave expression, Absolon inquired, “Mother, who handled your attire today?"
