“Why should I? Who do you think you are?" Effie retorted, rolling her eyes and turning away.
Ruth's voice turned icy. “Effie, don't make me kick you off this show. You'll regret it."
Effie's background as a member of the influential Harris family was not widely known since the family had removed the related news reports, so Ruth was unaware of who she was dealing with.
Without waiting for a response, Ruth snatched No. 1 from Effie's hand, replacing it with No. 4, and walked away with her head held high.
This exchange happened off-camera, unnoticed by the crew.
"She's a bit too full of herself, don't you think?" Briseis muttered, her eyes narrowing as she watched Ruth walk away.
"Effie, don't stoop to her level. It's not worth it," Lilah said calmly, her tone indifferent.
Effie, however, couldn't hide her frustration. She wore a scowl as she stepped onto the stage, her displeasure evident.
Ruth captivated the audience with a passionate and unrestrained Latin dance, leaving a memorable impression. After a quick costume change, she executed a flawless Taekwondo flying kick.
Despite some people's disdain for her arrogance, her skillful performance drew admiration.
Applause filled the venue as Ruth looked in Effie's direction, her eyes gleaming with smug satisfaction.
“It's not a big deal. Who can't do that?" Effie muttered through gritted teeth, her irritation palpable.
The next few performances varied, with some participants singing and others dancing. Effie's anger simmered as her turn approached. When she stepped onto the stage, her cold eyes and imposing demeanor were hard to miss.
"Are you upset?" Ruth taunted, pretending to be surprised as she sat down.
Effie ignored her. Just as she was about to begin her performance, Lilah intervened.
She called for a trumpet from the staff and handed it to Effie. “If anyone upsets you, just play this loudly to drive them away.”
The staff and guests couldn't help but laugh at the remark, the tension easing slightly.
Everyone was aware of Ruth's antics, but her strong background and the show's need for drama meant that her behavior was often overlooked.
Confronting her directly would only cause unnecessary trouble and embarrassment.
Lilah's idea was unexpected, and no one had anticipated that Effie knew how to play the trumpet.
This way, Effie could vent her frustration and earn her some admiration from the crowd, and the performance would garner more interest.
When Effie saw the trumpet that Lilah had handed her, she was completely taken aback and could hardly believe it.
Lilah gave her a wink and encouraged her to play loudly.
Understanding Lilah's intentions, Effie quickly abandoned her original performance. She picked up the trumpet and started to play.
