Lilah's patience wore thin, and she spoke firmly. "I'll give you the last chance. Let her go.”
Ruth smirked defiantly. “No chance, Lilah. Since you're so protective, I'll let you witness her demise-Ah!"
Just as Ruth was about to finish her sentence, a sudden pain shot through her hand. Without thinking, she let go of her grip, only to discover a toothpick lodged in her skin. A thin stream of blood began to trickle down, a sight that took her by surprise.
Hadley seized the moment and fled.
“How dare you attack me like this!" Ruth glared daggers at Lilah, exuding a deadly rage.
Lilah frowned, surprised by Ruth's unyielding vindictiveness.
But fear didn't grip her.
"Ruth, don't mess up again. If you do, I'll have no choice but to take you straight to the cops and tarnish your reputation." Lilah seized Hadley's arm and swiftly took her away.
Suddenly, Hadley's legs grew weak, and she couldn't stop trembling.
What she had just gone through surpassed any pain she had endured in the past two decades. The memory of it still sent shivers down her spine.
“Lilah, I don't even know how to thank you. If it wasn't for you, I might not have made it. Waa..."
Tears streamed down uncontrollably.
“Okay, okay. Stop crying, it doesn't suit you." Lilah looked slightly repulsed, pulling out a handkerchief to dab away her tears.
After a brief pause, Hadley started crying again. "I didn't expect you to use your handkerchief, Lilah... Boohoo... This beautiful handkerchief is going to get stained by me..."
She was as noisy as a rooster.
Lilah was amused by her exuberant cry. She gently coughed and patted her back to offer comfort.
“Lilah, I might have to step away from the entertainment scene, but I truly love acting, even if I'm not particularly skilled at it."
Hadley sought solace in Lilah's embrace, tears streaming as she poured out her heart until they arrived at a picturesque villa.
Hadley gazed up at the entrance, momentarily stunned, wiping tears from her cheeks. “Lilah, where are we? Are you abducting me?"
Lilah couldn't help but chuckle.
“This is your new home. I suspect Ruth knows your previous address. She might retaliate, so for now, you'll stay here, okay?" she explained.
Wide-eyed, Hadley's clear gaze reflected astonishment.
Suddenly, she felt as if Lilah was her fairy godmother.
“How can I ever thank you?" Hadley asked softly.
