After luxuriating in the hot spring, Lilah and Hadley rejoined with the others on the fourth floor.
“Lilah, if we'd known you were living such a great life out here, we would've joined you sooner. You should've brought us here to enjoy our retirement earlier, you heartless thing." Devonte, spotting Lilah, donned a stern expression and started chiding her.
The other two old men joined in, playfully accusing her of being heartless as well.
Jerrold lingered nearby, his silence a testament to his reluctance to speak up.
Lilah let out a weary sigh. “There's a hot spring at home too. Haven't you tried it?"
Devonte let out a derisive snort. "What's the point of the three of us soaking in a hot spring at home? This kind of thing is meant to be enjoyed outdoors. Just look over there..."
In mid-sentence, his attention was captured by a woman in her forties leisurely strolling by with a platter of fruit.
Lilah shook her head in resignation.
“Have you found any leads yet?" she settled beside Gerard and inquired softly.
Gerard peeled an orange slice and passed it to her. "Not yet. Just a little more patience; we're almost there."
His voice, hoarse and worn from recent exertions, resonated with palpable exhaustion, while his demeanor betrayed unmistakable signs of weariness.
Lilah clasped his large hand and gave it a comforting squeeze. “At least the doctor you found is helping to postpone Cyrus’ poisoning.”
Gerard appeared startled. “How did you find out?"
He had never broached this topic with her before.
Lilah chuckled softly, reflecting on their shared living space.
Despite her busy schedule, she had keenly observed Cyrus' daily state, piecing together subtle clues along the way.
"Thank you," she said sincerely, peering into his eyes.
As their gazes intertwined, she glimpsed her own reflection in the depths of his soulful stare.
Lilah leaned against Gerard, a silent gratitude welling up inside her.
Without him, the countless tasks and responsibilities she shouldered would feel impossible.
He was her anchor, her rock.
“Honey, it was a breeze." Gerard dismissed her gratitude with a casual smile. But then, his gaze sharpened as it caught a man lingering nearby, his eyes fixed on Lilah.
Suddenly, Gerard's expression darkened, and his sharp gaze zeroed in on the man.
The man flinched under the intensity of Gerard's stare, nearly bumping into someone in his haste to flee.
