“I think you two look very similar. Could you be sisters? Is that possible? You know, I once heard about two people who looked so much alike they took a DNA test and discovered they were related. What a wild coincidence..."
Before Devonte could finish, Lilah interjected, "This is Devonte. I'm sorry, Miss Hanson, he's quite spirited. Please excuse him."
Her mind raced with thoughts of arranging a DNA test discreetly, though she couldn't voice such a personal matter just yet.
“It's okay. If we are sisters, that would be wonderful. I just don't know if I'm that fortunate." Miranda was extremely humble.
Lilah felt a surge of joy upon hearing her words.
Just then, Gerard and Kyler arrived, their expressions betraying their shock at the sight of Miranda.
Lilah gave them a subtle wink, silently signaling them to maintain their composure and not let their surprise show too obviously.
Miranda was a skilled doctor. Thanks to the treatment she had given him, Cyrus soon woke up.
As Cyrus slowly regained consciousness, a flicker of confusion crossed his features as he glanced around the room, seemingly unsure of his surroundings.
“cyrus, you're finally awake. You really scared us. Were you trying to scare us to death? We were out there, searching for you, worried sick!" Devonte grabbed Cyrus roughly and scolded him, ignoring the frailty of Cyrus' condition.
Cyrus was confused and stammered, "I-I didn't..."
He was shocked. He didn't want to commit suicide this time.
Devonte, momentarily stunned, then gritted his teeth and stared fiercely at Cyrus. "You're such a loser. Were you planning to sneak off and end it all without telling us? Not a chance! If you're brave enough to take your own life, you'd have to take ours as well. As long as we're alive, you're not allowed to die. And even if you do die, you'd better come back to life!"
Lilah was speechless. How could Devonte keep speaking so carelessly about death?
She looked apologetically at Miranda.
Unintentionally, she noticed Miranda was also looking at her with an inscrutable gaze, though it was fleeting.
Lilah's heart skipped a beat.
She was certain she hadn't misinterpreted the look, but why...
Did Miranda not want to acknowledge their relationship, or was there some hidden reason?
“ALL right, all right. You're spitting on my face," Cyrus complained, pushing Devonte away with visible irritation.
“I just wanted to go out and buy breakfast for everyone. I heard there's a place that sells amazing sandwiches. I couldn't fall asleep anyway, so I wanted to queue up in the middle of the night. I didn't know how I ended up here," he explained earnestly.
It was true.
The night before, Cyrus had wrestled with a heart-wrenching decision -whether to end his struggles now or wait for his inevitable death.
He pondered over his failing health, the earnest gazes of his friends, and their tireless, selfless efforts.
