But now...

It's said that time changes all things, and it was evident here.

Barth was dressed in a subtle yet expensive designer suit, his appearance carefully polished, and a diamond pin on his lapel that was undoubtedly costly.

What caught her off guard the most were his eyes. They still radiated warmth, genuinely pleased to see them, yet Lilah sensed something different about Barth.

“Barth, it's been a while. You look fantastic," Lilah said, embracing the honest and straightforward man she remembered.

Barth, blushing, timidly touched his nose, catching Gerard out of the corner of his eye.

"Who is this?" Barth's gaze deepened.

Lilah introduced Gerard and Jerrold to him.

Barth, taken aback, smiled and removed the diamond pin from his chest, presenting it to Jerrold as a gift.

“Jerrold, remember to thank Barth." Lilah gently stroked her son's fluffy head.

The youngster looked up, sweetly expressing his gratitude before nestling into Gerard's arms.

"I haven't seen you in ages. It's quite a surprise you've started a family," Barth remarked before introducing the people behind him to Lilah.

"These are the four deputy leaders of the Fearless League. During your and the three elders' absence, they've been invaluable in managing affairs. I couldn't have done it alone," Barth acknowledged.

The deputy leaders stepped forward, greeting the three elderly men.

Lilah sensed keenly that the three elderly men were reluctant. Their gazes were icy, and Devonte didn't even lift his head.

She realized these deputy leaders likely enjoyed Barth's support but weren't trusted confidants of the three elderly men at all.

After the greetings, Barth escorted everyone to the manor housing the Fearless League. He personally drove Lilah and her companions.

The stretch limo offered ample space, yet only Barth and Jerrold seemed buoyant. Barth sporadically inquired about Lilah's past year, while Jerrold eagerly observed the scenery outside.

Lilah, too, gazed out the window, emotions stirred by the familiar sights.

Barth had already arranged a welcoming dinner in the banquet hall and warmly greeted everyone as host.

"Mr. Cooper, should we escort your esteemed guests to their seats?"

A striking maid entered softly.

Lilah frowned.

Why were the three elderly men addressed as “esteemed guests"? They were the proprietors of this place.
