Bartley's complexion drained of color, and he fixed the man with a glare that could kill.
The man in black gulped, “Please, if my words hold no weight, question the others. I'm the first to come forward. My own Life matters little now, but please, protect my family. Miss Gomez holds them captive-she vowed to kill them should I reveal her plot."
Once more, the crowd erupted in murmurs of disbelief, exchanging shocked glances.
Barth was left completely stunned.
He rose to his feet and outstared the man in black, filled with rage.
After a moment of anxiousness, he quickly lashed out, "What are you trying to say? Can you give your word that if anything you say is a lie, you'll..."
“I give you my word," the man dressed in black cut in as he got on his knees, placing his hand on his chest as if he was pledging a vow.
“and if I'm not saying the truth, may I be impotent for the rest of my life."
The declaration sent shivers down the spines of all the men gathered there.
That was a drastic vow to pledge!
Barth wore an unpleasant expression.
Arya was his girlfriend. She had been the one chasing after him. His main focus had always been to make the Fearless League known internationally. This had made him so reluctant to start a relationship with Arya.
On one fateful evening, when they had a bit too much to drink, they ended up alone in a room. Then one thing led to another, and a night of carelessness turned into a steamy and hot night. After the incident, he thought it was only right for him to officially start dating her.
They also had plans of getting married once he secured the position of league leader.
Arya had been avoiding him since the day he lost at that competition.
This caused him to believe that she wanted to end things between them. He never presumed finding out about her unexpected actions.
Barth felt his whole life was crumbling down.
His girlfriend had gone as far as to hurt Lilah in her avidity to assist him get to the top.
T Barth was on his knees again, overshadowed by guilt and mortification. Tears rolled down his face.
Cyrus took a deep breath as he gently tapped Barth's shuddering shoulders. “Barth, I thought you had changed and given up your principles, but it seems you were tricked by someone dear to you. Get back on your feet. This isn't your fault, and Lilah will definitely understand. As long as you address this with a just approach, no one will hold you responsible."
“Sir, there's been some sort of mistake. Let's debrief these captives to a greater extent," Bartley proposed, wearing a flushed look, his head bowed in front of the elderly men for the first time.
He only had one daughter; he couldn't sit back and watch her get penalized.
“Bartley, I understand whatever might be going on in your head at the moment. This is your only daughter, but we three old timers only have these two students. One has been misguided into the wrong direction, and the other almost lost her life. Who should we go to for justice?" Cyrus questioned in a cold tone as he slammed his hands on the table.
His domineering aura made everyone go silent.
