Seizing the moment, Lilah executed a swift flying kick just as Sherwood began his outburst.
He was propelled backward like a kite, crashing heavily against a wall and collapsing in a heap.
"Good heavens, Lilah! Be more careful next time; you almost hit my feet," Xavier exclaimed, both alarmed and relieved.
Sherwood's complexion went ashen as he struggled to his feet, his desire to continue clashing with the pain that racked his body. His knees throbbed painfully, complicating his efforts to stand.
"Mr. Bennett, let it go. Lilah is too formidable," Jeffery said cautiously.
Sherwood's anger boiled over, and he physically pushed his student away. “Damn it, get away from me! You're such a disappointment. I counted on you to bring me honor, but all you do is boost others' morale and our sap spirits!"
Feeling wronged, Jeffery muttered, "You couldn't defeat her either, so how could I..."
Before he could finish, Sherwood raised his hand threateningly.
Jeffery quickly retreated from the scene.
"Mr. Bennett, I appreciate your efforts. I've Learned much from our sparring. Please, let the island's doctors examine you," Lilah, having won the match, offered respectfully.
But Sherwood, consumed by fury, stared at her as though he could tear her apart.
"You just wait!" he spat out through gritted teeth.
“Wait for what?" At that moment, the main door swung open, and Cyrus strolled out. "Sherwood, have you been neglecting your training these past three years? Why can't you even defeat a young girl now?"
Cyrus seemed amused by the situation; he waved to Lilah, who promptly joined him.
"What are you so proud of? It's only that your student is skilled. No one knows how capable you truly are!" Sherwood retorted.
His words were met with snickers.
Failing to defeat even the student, yet aspiring to challenge the mentor?
Such overconfidence.
Realizing he had lost all dignity, Sherwood, with no pride left, gave Jeffery a few last instructions and limped away.
“Are you just going to let him leave?" Lilah was puzzled. “At least he could stay for a meal and rest before leaving."
Jeffery, visibly uncomfortable, choked up. “My mentor has always held his dignity in high regard. With his pride so wounded, he really can't bear to stay."
Lilah felt a twinge of embarrassment.
However, since Jeffery remained, she considered how she might make amends to him.
After more than a month on the island, Lilah had completed all essential tasks and prepared to hand over the remaining responsibilities to the three elderly men.
