This question had been asked and answered before, yet she still felt puzzled.
Gerard held her hand, offering comfort. "When my mom was critically ill, Karol was there. No one else dared to treat her, afraid of the risks, but Karol was brave enough to try, and fortunately, she managed to cure her."
Lilah raised her eyebrows.
If that was the case, it had to be acknowledged that Karol indeed possessed some medical skill.
However, Lilah couldn't shake the feeling that Karol might be up to something.
“Lilah, Lilah..." Brenda's urgent call suddenly echoed from the room, pulling them back from their conversation.
The two rushed in to find Brenda gripping the bedside table with one hand and her chest with the other, her face twisted in excruciating pain.
"Brenda!" Lilah, her face drained of color, assisted Brenda, who was struggling for air, choking as if obstructed by an invisible barrier.
"Quickly, fetch Karol!" Lilah yelled toward the hallway.
At that moment, Karol was immersed in the praises of the Harris family's servants, blissfully ignorant of the crisis unfolding.
When Lawson hurried to retrieve her, she was oblivious to the severity until informed of Brenda's sudden downturn.
"What?" Karol gasped, her mind reeling.
The past two weeks had been uneventful; the techniques she had been taught were supposed to manage a routine cardiac episode. Why was Brenda suffering so intensely?
Realizing panic would serve no purpose, she hastened into the room.
“Miss Morris, what is happening here?"
Lawson's tone was fraught with urgency, his concern palpable as he beheld Brenda's agony.
Although disquiet churned within her, Karol maintained a calm facade.
“Stay calm, please fetch the stethoscope."
Brenda's heartbeat was erratic, punctuated by alarming pauses and unsettling noises.
Perspiration coated Karol's hands; she hesitated to proceed without caution.
Brenda was not just any patient; she was distinct.
"Can you manage her treatment? If not, we must call another doctor right now." Lilah's tone was pressing, filled with worry.
Without hesitation, Karol asserted, "I am capable."
Internally, she scoffed at the idea of exposing her doubts; such an admission could undermine all her efforts.
