“Get out of my way!" Gerard's voice was not loud, yet it carried a stifling force.

Jameson stood dumbstruck, watching helplessly as Brenda was whisked away. He was unable to reconcile with the turn of events.

"If Brenda suffers any harm, I will hold those responsible fully accountable!"

Jameson clenched his teeth, his eyes fiercely following Gerard's retreating figure.

As they headed back, Lilah phoned Miranda, instructing her to make preparations.

Upon arriving home, they hurriedly carried Brenda to the second-floor bedroom, strictly forbidding anyone from entering.

Despite her weary features, Brenda managed a faint smile, touched by their efforts.

The elderly woman beckoned Lilah closer. Taking Brenda's frail hand in hers, Lilah smiled reassuringly. "The doctor will be ready soon. Please, just a little Longer.”

Brenda remained silent, her gaze unwaveringly fixed on Lilah, her eyes clouded with a hint of reluctance to let go.

“Lilah, my biggest regret is not being able to see you two get married," she sighed wistfully.

Sensing a deep sadness in Brenda's voice, Lilah furrowed her brows.

She responded with a mixture of optimism and defiance, “What regret? We'll have our wedding the moment you're on your feet again."

Yet the reality was far more complicated.

Up to this point, Lilah was merely Gerard's girlfriend, and the Harris family had not fully accepted her.

The road to their acceptance seemed long and fraught with challenges.

"Okay," Brenda whispered softly, her hand gently patting Lilah's.

"Lilah, you're a good girl. Gerard is so fortunate to have you in his life."

Each word Brenda spoke felt increasingly like a poignant farewell, tightening the knot of anxiety in Lilah's chest. Just as she was about to respond, Miranda appeared.

Donned in a mask, Miranda carried a medical tray laden with acupuncture tools and assorted medicines.

“Doctor,” Lilah murmured, a spark of hope flickering within her.

Miranda, limping slightly, approached Brenda and began her examination.

Brenda paused, taken aback by the young woman before her.

The resemblance of her eyes to Lilah's, especially visible above the mask, was so uncanny it was as if they shared the same pair of eyes.

"Who... who are you?" Brenda's breaths came in short, labored gasps.
