Lilah nearly burst into laughter.
Brenda quickly convinced Lilah to settle the matter before the year was out, warning her that waiting too long could lead to problems.
Lilah felt like she had no other choice and agreed.
“Alright, let's eat. Lilah, you've lost weight these past few days. That's on me," Brenda said as she joyfully loaded Lilah's plate with food.
Richard was in high spirits, too. He took advantage of the cheerful mood and shared a couple of glasses of wine with Gerard.
But then, something unexpected happened.
The butler rushed in and announced that Danna had arrived with Karol.
The smile on Brenda's face vanished as she frowned.
She shot a look at Richard, who also looked displeased.
Initially, they had quite liked Karol because she had been treating Brenda for over two weeks. But when they found out she abandoned Brenda halfway through the treatment and went into hiding, they realized she was unreliable.
Naturally, they couldn't trust someone like that.
"Bring them in," Richard ordered sharply.
Since Karol and Danna were Lilah's relatives, Richard knew he shouldn't be too harsh.
The two of them soon followed the butler inside.
Lilah saw Danna storm in angrily, dressed in a blue dress, with Karol trailing behind her.
It looked like Danna knew something.
“How are you, Danna?" Richard greeted with a polite smile. Then, he noticed Karol's face was covered in gauze, and her leg had bloodstains on it. He looked puzzled.
“Miss Morris, what happened? How did you get so badly hurt?" Brenda asked with concern.
Hearing this, tears started streaming down Karol's face. “I'm sorry for what happened before, Mrs. Harris. Please don't hold it against me," she said.
Karol's voice was heavy with sorrow, and she looked utterly dejected.
Brenda wasn't the type to quibble over every little thing. Now that she was feeling alright, she decided to let Karol off the hook.
“What happened to your face?" Brenda asked.
Karol trembled and stayed silent.
Just then, Danna let out a mocking Laugh.
