As soon as Lilah said yes, the crowd erupted in cheers.
Boom!
With a thunderous sound, the night sky was suddenly illuminated by a dazzling array of fireworks. The sight was stunning and awe-inspiring.
In the midst of all the excitement, Gerard gently slid the ring onto his beloved's finger, and then tenderly embraced her.
“I designed this ring just for you. It symbolizes our everlasting love," he softly whispered in her ear, making a promise meant only for them.
Lilah's eyes filled with tears. She couldn't stop herself from becoming emotional.
She was overwhelmed and started to cry. Ever since she began dating Gerard, she had grown more sentimental. She was no longer the cool, aloof woman she used to be.
“When did you plan this? How did I not see it coming?" Lilah playfully scolded him, but deep down, she was overjoyed.
Gerard placed one hand on her shoulder, and together they watched the fireworks that lit up nearly half of the sky.
“I've been planning this for a while. I want to marry you as soon as possible. You didn't notice because you're always so busy and often overlook me," Gerard explained.
Lilah didn't know what to say. "I come home every night to spend time with you. Isn't that enough?" she replied.
In that moment, it felt as if their roles were reversed.
Gerard wasn't pleased with her response. He wrapped his arm around her waist and gazed at her lovingly. "We should start planning the wedding soon. Otherwise, what if someone else sweeps you off your feet?" he teased.
Lilah was taken aback. She hadn't expected him to bring up wedding so directly.
After all, they both had demanding schedules, and she thought it wasn't the right time.
"Didn't you say we would have the wedding at the end of the year?" she asked with a smile.
Even though she seemed calm, Lilah felt a bit nervous. The truth was, some of the Harris family members weren't fond of her and didn't think she would make a suitable wife.
Despite the cheers from everyone around them and her courage to stand beside Gerard, she couldn't shake her worries.
To her, saying yes to his proposal and actually having the wedding still felt miles apart.
"Yes, we'll have the wedding at the end of the year. But we could get the marriage license first," Gerard suggested with a playful grin, pulling her closer. "I won't feel at ease until we're officially married."
A marriage license?
Back at the Harris family residence, Lilah remained a bit puzzled, with countless thoughts swirling in her mind.
"Don't worry. I'll talk to my family. You just need to tell your father, and if possible, talk to Miranda too."
As Gerard held her, she could feel a comforting warmth through his embrace.
