He was sure he didn't know her, but why had she appeared so coincidentally and offered him goodwill?
Upon hearing the woman's voice, Devin's anger flared.
"Jennifer, stay out of this, he growled through clenched teeth.
The woman calmly replied, "Don't forget, you still owe me a favor."
"I don't want you to waste my precious promise on this matter."
Devin clenched his jaw, his gaze piercing the woman.
Jennifer shrugged. "Unfortunately, no matter how precious your promise is, I have only this one request. If you agree, I can prolong your mother's life."
The man frowned instantly, clearly tempted by the offer.
"Why are you helping him? You know he's the one responsible for harming my son," Devin argued, trying to sway Jennifer.
Jennifer merely chuckled. "Before making such statements, you should first investigate what your son has done."
Devin's face twisted with anger. "Do you really want to do this, Jennifer? I don't want to become your enemy." Jennifer laughed coldly.
No one wants to be anyone's enemy. But you, my former friend, set him free, or face me as your new adversary."
Devin was in shock.
He stared incredulously at the woman in front of him, his heart filled with a mix of hatred and conflict, reaching a peak.
He was truly torn; after much effort, he had captured the person he despised most in his life and was on the brink of delivering justice for his beloved son.
Yet, unexpectedly, he found himself facing someone he least wanted to offend.
Moreover, this woman held the power over his mother's life.
Devin trembled all over, hesitating for a long time without making a decision.
Meanwhile, Gerard was scrutinizing the woman from a distance.
Strangely, he felt as though she was observing him as well.
Both seemed to harbor a curiosity about the other.
Gerard grew increasingly puzzled, his mind racing as he suddenly considered a shocking possibility.
He raised his voice, "May I know your name, ma'am? Someday, I shall repay your kindness."
The woman ignored him, instead crossing her arms and staring at him with an appraising gaze.
