Lilah said with a smile.
Brenda wiped her tears and took out her phone to show Lilah.
The latter took the phone and saw the message displayed.
"I'm nearing the end of my days, and you'll never get my forgiveness in this lifetime! Brenda, I'll be waiting for you in the afterlife!"
It was sent from an unknown number.
Lilah was bewildered.
The only certainty was that the person who sent the message truly harbored a deep-seated hatred for Brenda, enough to carry it through a lifetime.
Lilah was at a loss, mulling over the message for a while, unsure if she should probe further.
It seemed inappropriate to reopen Brenda's wounds.
"Mom, is it about Aunt Lila again?" Gerard suddenly asked, as if recalling something.
Brenda's tears welled up once more, hurriedly grabbing a tissue to wipe them, but the more she wiped, the more they flowed, seemingly endless.
She nodded painfully, "It's been thirty years, yet she still refuses to forgive me. I truly am... truly am...
Halfway through her sentence, Brenda clutched her chest, emitting painful sobs.
Lilah quickly summoned the family doctor, who administered a heart-saving pill.
Then, the doctor gave Brenda some calming medication. Watching Brenda fall asleep, Lilah finally exited the room.
"What exactly happened? Who is Aunt Lila?" she asked.
Gerard pulled her onto the sofa, pouring tea for both of them before he began to speak.
"Lila, originally named Lila, was Brenda's best and only friend in her youth.
Lila was a talented woman but led a life filled with hardship.
Abandoned by her biological parents as a child, she later found a home with adoptive parents. However, when they had a daughter of their own, they sent her back to the orphanage.
These two abandonments left deep psychological scars, turning her into a withdrawn and deeply mistrustful of others person.
Brenda, on the other hand, was a formidable woman in her younger days, founding a fashion brand. In need of a designer, she was introduced to Lila.
At first, they clashed-Brenda was outgoing and passionate, while Lila was withdrawn and stubborn.
But over time, they went through many experiences together, becoming each other's closest confidantes, and Lila opened her heart once more.
