"Cason was terrified, rushing forward. He was so desperate he might have knelt if the situation allowed. "Those were their words, not mine. I've never looked down on Miranda.
As long as she doesn't mind me, I'm grateful. Please don't dismiss me because of others' remarks. Miranda and I have come so far." As he spoke, Cason unexpectedly began to cry.
"Brother, what do you even see in this woman? She... "
"Shut your mouth!" Cason snapped, glaring at his sister, "Go home immediately. Don't force me to sever our relationship."
Vanessa froze, nearly collapsing in fear.
The commotion finally subsided with Claudian and Vanessa leaving in disgrace.
Usually reserved and composed, Miranda was uncharacteristically smiling today. She toasted everyone present, downing her drink in one go.
Seeing her sister happy, Lilah felt a warmth in her heart.
Yet, she was surprised that Joselyn and Absolon could unite against Claudian.
"What are you thinking about?" Gerard's curious voice suddenly broke through her thoughts. Lilah blinked, returning to reality.
Gerard had been the perfect silent supporter tonight, but everyone knew his presence was crucial in Claudian's swift retreat.
"Do you think there's still a chance for those two?" Lilah asked, recalling Joselyn's words and feeling a surge of hope.
Joselyn had publicly acknowledged Miranda; perhaps she had already accepted both daughters in her heart.
"It depends on them, “ Gerard replied softly, sitting beside her, "But whatever happens, it's best to let them handle it themselves."
On the other side, Absolon sat quietly in the corner, clinking glasses with his assistant.
"Mr. Absolon, Ms. Joselyn is just over there. Should we go over?"
The assistant, noticing Absolon's unusual mood, suggested with a smile.
Absolon didn't speak, instead downed his drink in one go.
After a long pause, he shook his head.
Under the grand crystal chandelier, the light illuminated the entire banquet hall, casting his silhouette in a particularly lonely manner.
"Mr. Absolon, care for a drink?" A familiar yet cool female voice suddenly rang out.
Absolon's body stiffened slightly. He turned just enough to see Joselyn's eyes filled with a smile.
In that instant, it was as if he could see everything she held in her heart through her gaze.
"Hello, Ms. Joselyn." A hint of melancholy flashed in Absolon's eyes, but his smile remained as gentle as a spring breeze.
