Lilah finally understood what it meant to emotionally wreck someone.
"What do you want the shares for? To sell them off?" At this moment, Richard came down the stairs.
"It's none of your business," Lila glared at him with intense hatred.
Gerard personally brought a sofa chair, helping Richard to sit down beside Brenda.
"You are so unyielding and prey on the weak and fear the strong.
I was the one who insisted on marrying Brenda back then. Why don't you hate me instead of her?" Richard stroked his graying beard, his tone mocking.
“Enough, don't say anymore," Brenda slowly spoke. "I agree to your demands."
An eerie silence fell over the living room.
Lilah was utterly shocked.
How could this be?
"Madam, you mustn't do this. If she gets the shares, she'll definitely misuse them. Isn't her goal to make you suffer and feel disappointed?"
"Lilah, come sit here," Brenda smiled warmly at Lilah, her gaze soft and soothing.
The anxiety and anger in Lilah's heart were instantly soothed.
She listened, putting aside her displeasure, and quietly watched Brenda.
Meanwhile, Lila looked incredulous.
"What did you say?" she laughed, thinking she had misheard.
"I said, I can give you the shares, Brenda directly instructed the butler to call in the lawyers and bring Brenlla's documents." I can have them draft an agreement right now to transfer the shares to you."
Lila's brow furrowed tightly as she watched the team of lawyers file in, her throat feeling constricted.
The atmosphere in the spacious living room was cold and tense.
Lilah stood beside Brenda, watching these events unfold, her heart felt heavy.
"Auntie... she gently tugged on Brenda's sleeve, somewhat disapproving.
Brenda just smiled at her, signaling her to be patient.
"Are you really willing to do this? If you're pretending...
"Lila hesitated. "With the lawyers here, of course I'm willing to hand over the shares," Brenda's gaze was soft, filled with boundless understanding, as she looked at the complex expression on Lila's face, like a child promising to change after doing something wrong.
