"Lilah, what are you looking at?" At that moment, Livia came in with two cups of coffee and noticed the letters.
She paused for a moment, "What are these?"
"Nothing much, just some old things of Brenda's, letters she wrote to someone," Lilah replied with a smile.
Livia didn't press further.
But even with a quick glance, she understood.
That night, Livia brought some fruit and snacks to visit Lila in the hospital.
Lila's health had improved significantly compared to a few days ago, but her spirits were still low.
"Did you do what I asked?" Lila asked calmly.
Livia nodded, "I wouldn't dare defy your wishes."
She recounted the events of the past few days, including rescuing little Jerrold from drowning. Her words carried a hint of joy, as she had made swift progress in earning Brenda's trust.
"Seems you have some sense, Lila remarked, leaning against the headboard, pondering briefly." They didn't suspect you, did they?"
Livia shook her head, "Brenda is genuinely gracious and kind-hearted. She said once I finish my studies, she'll choose between me and Lilah as her successor."
"Oh, really?" Lila responded indifferently, showing little interest in such matters.
She found life quite dull at the moment and had only agreed to Livia's request to pass the time. Having secured her shares, she wasn't sure what to do next.
So, she decided to play it by ear.
"However, Lila, today I discovered something strange." Livia spoke while observing the elderly woman's expression. Seeing Lila's interest piqued, Livia sighed and continued slowly, "Lila, to be honest, I never understood your actions before, hor why you harbored such resentment towards her for so many years. But today, I finally understand.
Brenda has an album and a journal, documenting every detail, big and small, since she founded Brenlla.
I was hoping to find some clues about you in there. I ended up flipping through that book until it was worn out, yet found nothing. Honestly, I feel sad for you."
Lila's brow furrowed, a flash of hostility glinting in her eyes.
Livia noticed this and felt a surge of joy inside, speaking again, "You must have collaborated with Brenda for two to three years at least. Those were your most challenging times, so surely there were significant moments worth recording. But I truly didn't expect that she."
"Shut up!" Lila suddenly stood, her legs weak and almost collapsing to the ground.
Her entire demeanor shifted, with anger boiling in her eyes, making her appear terrifying.
Livia hurried to support her, "Don't be like this, Lila. All these things are in the past. Shouldn't we look forward?
Memories of the past are useless; they're unkind."
