Lilah had just unwrapped a yogurt cheese stick given by Jerrold and was about to take a bite when she paused, stunned by the comment.
"What do you mean?" Lilah was both surprised and delighted, "Sis, did you notice something?"
Miranda touched her chin, feigning profundity, "Well, Mr. Absolon coughed up blood in front of Aunt Joselyn today, and she seemed quite worried. I'd say it's almost certain."
They exchanged a glance, their minds already scheming.
Joselyn prepared a table full of delicious dishes, saying it was to help Miranda regain her strength.
Everyone took their seats, with Absolon at the head. Though his happiness was apparent, his pale face betrayed the severity of his condition.
With Jerrold, the beloved little one, present, the atmosphere at the table was harmonious.
"Future in-laws, I toast to you, Cason suddenly stood, respectfully bowing to Absolon and Joselyn, raising his glass to them.
Everyone was momentarily taken aback by his straightforwardness.
He had directly addressed them as in-laws, as if they were still a married couple.
Miranda glanced at him, disapproving, and coughed, "Cason, Uncle Absolon isn't well; he can't drink.
"The emphasis on "Uncle Absolon" was unmistakable.
Without hesitation, Cason replied, "No worries, Father-in-law can raise a toast with tea as a substitute for wine. We're all happy today, sitting together as a family is such a rare occasion. I'm thrilled."
Since arriving in Eleywood and winning over his beloved, Cason seemed like a new person, full of cheer and charm.
His enthusiasm wasn't lost on the others, who didn't want to embarrass him by refusing.
Absolon, holding a teacup with one hand, returned the gesture, while Joselyn smiled faintly and drank her wine.
"Grandpa and Grandma are the best, Jerrold said, climbing down from his seat to stand between them. "Uncle Cason, could you please take a picture of us?"
Cason Laughed heartily, quickly pulling out his phone, "Alright, Father-in-law, Mother-in-Law, give us a smile."
His cheerfulness was infectious.
Watching this, Lilah couldn't help but feel a bit embarrassed by his enthusiasm.
Fortunately, after a brief hesitation, the two obliged.
"Come on, everyone, a toast," Cason continued to set the mood.
They all stood, raising their glasses, but just then, Absolon suddenly collapsed.
"Dad!" Lilah was the first to rush over, supporting him.
