"What's so great about here? The waves are so dangerous. What if you go for another walk alone and get swallowed by the sea?"
Joselyn looked down at Absolon, her tone slightly fierce.
Absolon glanced at Lilah for help, but she lowered her head.
He turned to Miranda, but she was talking to Cason.
Gerard was out of the question.
He was left without any options.
The next morning, Absolon was taken back to Eleywood.
As the car moved along the road, the atmosphere inside was far from pleasant.
Absolon sat quietly in the back seat, staring out the window at the sky, feeling a deep sense of loss.
"What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?" Joselyn asked proactively. "If you're not feeling well, let us know. We can stop and check on you."
Absolon opened his mouth, but hesitated to speak.
He couldn't quite tell if it was just his imagination, but Joselyn had been acting very unusual in recent days, showing unexpected kindness in his presumed final days that left him both surprised and touched.
With that thought, Absolon suddenly found the air less fresh.
He grasped his chest in sudden discomfort, breaking into a fit of violent coughing.
Gerard hurriedly pulled the car over, and Miranda got out from the vehicle behind to check his pulse urgently.
"Uncle Absolon, you need to worry less and focus on the positives, okay?" Miranda advised with a hint of helplessness, knowing full well these words might be futile, yet feeling compelled to say them.
Once back in the car, they drove at a much slower pace.
On her phone, Joselyn asked Miranda how many more days Absolon might hold on and how best to care for him.
Miranda replied, saying that no one could predict Absolon's condition. If things went well, he might recover; if not, he might not even see the next sunrise. It all depended on his mood and the care he received from those around him.
Joselyn pondered over this.
Shortly after, Absolon also messaged Miranda, asking how much longer he could endure.
Miranda's response was similar, advising him to maintain a good mood and not dwell on unhappy thoughts.
She couldn't directly tell him to spend this time bonding with Joselyn; that would be too obvious.
They soon returned to the Morris family home.
