"Bitch!" The man sneered coldly, raising the knife again. Just as it was about to fall, Absolon threw himself at the attacker, knocking him down.
The two men wrestled fiercely, neither willing to give an inch.
Joselyn seized the opportunity to try and disarm the man, but he twisted his wrist, aiming the knife at Absolon's shoulder.
In a desperate move, Joselyn picked up a stone and struck the man on the head.
The man grunted in pain, retaliating by biting hard into Absolon's arm. Absolon, in agony, let go, feeling a sharp pain in his shoulder as the scent of blood filled the air.
"Absolon!" Joselyn was shocked, rushing forward to help. The attacker had a trick up his sleeve and suddenly threw a handful of powder at them.
Joselyn was caught off guard, feeling dizzy and weak in the knees, nearly collapsing to the ground.
"Joselyn, run!" At the critical moment, Absolon grabbed the attacker's leg and said coldly, "Run!"
Joselyn was profoundly shaken to her core. In such a crisis, she couldn't possibly leave, so she stepped forward to help.
Fortunately, Lilah and the others arrived just in time, rescuing the two of them.
The attacker tried to flee but was taken down by a flying kick from Lilah.
The group hurried home.
Both Joselyn and Absolon had been poisoned, but luckily, Miranda could treat it. She used acupuncture to treat them and then prescribed medicine to clear the remaining toxins.
"Miranda, how is he doing now?" Joselyn asked with great concern, tears welling up in her eyes.
"His condition isn't looking good. Whether he pulls through depends on himself; no one else can help him, " Miranda sighed gently." Don't worry, Uncle Absolon won't be taken down so easily."
After that, everyone else left the room, leaving only Absolon and Joselyn.
Joselyn stood in silence for a long time before finally stepping forward. Her body was stiff, and her heart was sinking.
She was truly taken aback by how he would selflessly risk everything to save her in the face of danger, even though he was the one in the worst health.
"Why are you so foolish?" She sat down beside him, choking up as tears uncontrollably streamed down her face.
Memories from their youth flooded her mind, and Joselyn could hardly suppress the pain in her heart.
"I'm fine, really... " Just then, the man slowly opened his eyes, and a glimmer of light finally appeared in his deep, dark eyes.
Joselyn's eyes lit up instantly, "Absolon, you're awake! How are you feeling? Should I get a doctor to check on you?"
"Don't go." Absolon quickly reached out and grabbed her wrist.
He was gravely ill, with little strength left in his body, and his hands barely clasped hers. Yet even so, Joselyn was held in place, unable to rise.
