Two days later, Ashlyn sent someone with the antidote.

After taking the medicine, Effie's sores disappeared within a week, and both she and the baby in her womb were safe.

Miranda even took the time to check her pulse, finding her body rather weak, and prescribed some traditional herbal remedies to be prepared for her daily.

Despite this, she remained dispirited.

"What's wrong, Effie?" Lilah noticed her unease and leaned in to ask.

Effie had temporarily stopped working to focus on her pregnancy at home.

"Nothing, sis. I just feel a bit stifled, " she replied, managing a brief, wan smile that quickly faded.

"How about I take you out for a movie?" Lilah suggested.

Effie, however, wasn't interested.

She hesitated, as if wanting to say something.

Lilah noticed her indecision but chose not to press.

"Sis, do you know what Walter has been up to these past few days?" Effie finally asked, unable to keep it to herself.

Lilah answered without much thought, "I don't know either. Your brother mentioned Walter went home for something a couple of days ago, but I'm not sure what he's been doing since. Maybe he's busy with work."

Effie was silent for awhile, gently stroking her belly. "I see..."

Her voice betrayed her disappointment.

The disappointment was overwhelming.

Effie was straightforward and couldn't stand dishonesty.

Walter had promised to treat her well and never let what happened last time occur again. Although she said she wouldn't forgive him, her anger had subsided.

She thought they would reconcile, but he had disappeared again in the past two days.

It was simply unreasonable.

Effie decided to take the initiative. If Walter had truly changed and was unreliable, she wouldn't cling to him stubbornly.

"Sis, could you come with me for a trip?" Effie suddenly asked.

Lilah was taken aback. "Where to?"

The two of them went straight to Walter's family home.
