Joselyn had never spoken to her like that.
Heartbroken, she rushed out, her mind replaying Joselyn's final words.
Why, why wasn't having her as a daughter enough? Why did she have to think about those two others?
Panicked and anxious, Lillie went straight to Melvin and told him everything.
"Don't worry, " Melvin said coolly, retrieving a vial from his desk while dressed in his white coat. "If it doesn't work once, we can try again. Lillie, this time we must leave no loose ends."
Lillie's heart skipped a beat.
"What... what is that?" She had a bad feeling.
Melvin's lips curled into a smile as he waved the vial in front of Lillie. "This will let someone die in a blissful state. You don't need to worry about anything else. I'll handle it all."
Lillie, having been kicked out, wandered aimlessly through the streets, her mind crowded with Melvin's words.
And the ominous needle.
To send someone to their death certainly wasn't intended for Joselyn.
The only possibility was...
"Tomorrow, your Uncle Absolon and Jerrold are leaving, and I'll be seeing them off, " Joselyn spoke coldly. "You stay home and don't go anywhere."
After speaking, Joselyn went upstairs, her slender and agile figure disappearing from sight. Lillie had words on the tip of her tongue but swallowed them back.
She desperately wanted to monopolize Joselyn's maternal love, refusing to let anyone else have it.
If that person were gone, no one would compete with her, right?
The night passed.
Early the next morning, Lillie was already up and waiting quietly in the living room when Joselyn came downstairs. She hoped Joselyn would take her along.
But even as Joselyn left, she didn't say a word to her.
Lillie felt a surge of panic.
No matter what mistakes she had made in the past, however big, Joselyn never held them against her too much. At most, she would say a few words to teach her a lesson.
But this time, she seemed genuinely angry..
Outside the airport.
Joselyn handed the gifts she had bought for Jerrold and Lilah to Absolon, asking him to take them back.
