Fortunately, the scorpion's venom wasn't strong, and he would recover after a few days of rest.
Lilah and Gerard stayed by his bedside all night.
They didn't remain idle, having someone check the surveillance footage overnight to see what had happened before Jerrold's accident.
However, the house was too crowded that day, with people everywhere. Jerrold, being small, darted through the crowd and disappeared in no time, leaving no trace of anything unusual.
He could only wait until he woke up to confess on his own.
"He's getting more reckless with each passing day, daring to play in such a place. We've really spoiled him too much!" Lilah gritted her teeth, her worry quickly turning into a fiery anger.
Gerard noticed the cold fury gathering in her eyes and felt a bit awkward, sweating on behalf of his son.
At that moment, little Jerrold slowly woke up.
He rubbed his eyes, looking at Lilah with some confusion.
"Mommy, you're finally here. I was so scared. There were so many big bugs, and one seemed to bite me. It hurt so much..."
Jerrold, with a pitiful expression, sensing his precarious situation, clung to Lilah's neck, trying to act cute and innocent to avoid punishment.
Unfortunately, in this particular situation, Lilah wasn't going to indulge him.
She peeled him off and made him sit properly on the bed, smiling as she spoke, "Baby, can you tell Mommy who took you to play there?"
Normally, whenever little Jerrold saw Lilah smile like that, he felt like the happiest child in the world. But at this moment, he saw a chilling coldness in his mother's eyes, which was unusual.
Jerrold shivered involuntarily.
Instinctively, he looked at Gerard, his usually stern father, who had now become his only refuge.
Gerard, however, shrugged, distancing himself from the matter.
"Mommy, it was just an accident. I'm still scared, you..."
His words were cut off by Lilah's cold interruption, "Stop trying to act cute and innocent. If you can't give me a good explanation today, you'll face serious consequences!"
For the first time in his life, Jerrold's attempt to charm his way out failed.
With no other option, he stammered, "It was me. I thought it looked fun in there, so I wanted to see. No one told me anything..."
He lowered his head, his small hands nervously twisting the grass-green bedspread. Despite trying to appear normal, his slightly trembling shoulders betrayed his lie.
Lilah let out a cold laugh, casting a suspicious glance at Gerard.
Their eyes met, and her suspicion turned into shared surprise.
