Lilah, still weak from childbirth, lay on the bed, smiling faintly at Gerard, who was gently wiping her face with a cloth.
“Why don't you go and see the baby?" she asked.
Gerard held her hand tenderly, his voice hoarse with emotion.
"I want to take care of you first. We'll go see her together in a bit."
Having witnessed Lilah's labor firsthand, his heart was filled with love and concern for his wife.
If he could bear the pain for her, he would gladly do so rather than watch her suffer helplessly.
Brenda, holding the baby, showed her to Richard and Jerrold before heading toward Lilah and Gerard.
"Come, darling, look—this is your mom and dad, " Brenda said.
Brenda, as a fellow mother, understood exactly what Lilah needed at that moment.
She brought the swaddled baby close to Lilah.
As soon as the baby was near, perhaps sensing her mother, she let out some soft, baby-like coos.
Hearing her daughter's gentle cooing, Lilah's heart melted, and she felt that all the pain she had endured was worthwhile.
Though still physically weak from childbirth, Lilah played with the baby for a while before feeling tired.
Brenda and the others then took the baby away so Lilah could rest properly.
It was time to officially name the baby.
Richard presented a list of names they had previously considered.
Gerard chose one: Zhan Yuxi, which means "a promise for life, a rare treasure."
Though the name was officially decided as Zhan Yuxi, the family preferred to call her Tangtang.
Tangtang was fair and adorable from a young age, instantly lovable to everyone she met.
However, there was one concern that bothered the whole family.
The child was too docile-quiet and calm, never fussing no matter who held her.
Having seen Jerrold as an example, Brenda and Richard didn't want their little granddaughter to grow up to be another reserved child.
So, they did everything they could to shower Tangtang with love, hoping she would become more lively and cheerful.
Yet, sometimes their pampering was a bit over the top.
