Zhan Yuxi couldn't help but let a faint smile tug at her lips.
She took out her phone and walked to a quiet spot, dialing a video call.
But she waited for a long time. The call eventually ended automatically, and no one picked up on the other side.
Zhan Yuxi pressed her lips together slightly.
Meng Chenzhou always had a habit of getting so absorbed in his work that he often ignored his phone. Not answering her call wasn't entirely unexpected.
Still, for some reason, a faint unease lingered in her heart.
Feeling uneasy, Zhan Yuxi returned to her friends, her mind clouded with worry.
Her friends exchanged knowing looks, sensing that something serious must have happened for Zhan Yuxi to act this way.
"Sorry, everyone. I don't think I can stay and hang out with you anymore. There's something I need to go back and check on," she hesitated and said.
They nodded and helped her pack her luggage, escorting her to the car.
As soon as she reached her front door, Zhan Yuxi left the driver to handle her suitcase and hurried straight to the Meng family's residence.
However, when she arrived at the Meng family's gate, she found it tightly shut.
The butler and gardeners, who were always present, were nowhere to be seen.
What had happened?
In an instant, memories of her last meeting with Meng Chenzhou flashed through her mind.
He had said he wanted to tell her something.
What was it?
Could it have something to do with their sudden disappearance?
At the time, she had assumed Meng Chenzhou was going to talk about his relationship with another girl and hadn't wanted to listen.
As Zhan Yuxi's thoughts spiraled and she repeatedly pressed the doorbell, she heard a cat's meow behind her.
It was the same black cat from before. Though it was no longer as young as it once was, Zhan Yuxi recognized it instantly.
Moments later, the cat's owner appeared. Seeing Zhan Yuxi, she picked up the cat and gave her a warm smile.
"Miss Zhan, this family has been gone for days now. My little darling keeps wandering over here, and every time I come looking for her, the gate is shut tight. I think they might have moved away."
The elegant woman paused, then added with mild surprise, "I remember you were quite close to the young master of this house. Didn't he tell you?"
