Lilah never imagin...
Jerrold left the dining room, leaving Lilah and her daughter, Yixi, behind. Yixi looked at her mother with a puzzled expression and asked excitedly, "Mom, why the sudden concern about Jerrold's love life?"
"I've always cared, Lilah replied with a calm smile. "But now your brother is already twenty-seven. If he keeps dragging things out, isn't it getting a bit late?"
"You've got a point, “ Yixi nodded thoughtfully, but Lilah didn't share her deeper concerns with her daughter.
After all, both of her children seemed content and unburdened, and she wanted to shield them from her worries as much as possible.
Still, her uneasiness was evident in her expression, and Yixi and Menzhou, her son-in-law, couldn't help but notice.
Yixi turned to Menzhou with a look of silent appeal.
As both Jerrold's sister and Lilah's daughter, she wanted her brother to find someone he loved, but she also didn't want her mother to fret.
Menzhou sighed quietly to himself. Meeting Yixi had been his greatest blessing—a twist of fate that brought clarity to the complexities of love. But he couldn't help but wonder what advice to give if someone else hadn't had such fortune.
Back in her room, Yixi picked up her phone, mulled things over for a moment, and finally sent her brother a message:
"Don't bury yourself in work all the time. Think about your life and what truly matters—Mommy's concern shows how much she cares."
She even added an emoji of Cupid descending from the heavens for good measure.
Jerrold's phone chimed with a familiar tone, one reserved for messages from his sister, interrupting his review of company documents. He picked it up, read the message, and fell into a long silence.
After a while, he typed a simple reply: *x"Got it."** Then he transferred a generous sum of money to Yixi's card.
"Have a wonderful time on your vacation, and take care of yourself ! "
"Got it! Love you, Brother!"** she replied cheerfully.
Jerrold set his phone aside, but he didn't immediately return to his paperwork.
At dinner earlier, he had noticed his mother's unusual mood, though he hadn't thought much of it at the time.
Now, with Yixi's message, the matter suddenly felt more pressing.
He rubbed his temples in quiet frustration, the weight of unspoken thoughts settling heavily on him. All these years, he'd never really had anyone special in his life.
The two most important women to him had always been his mother and his sister.
Now, the idea of needing to find someone else felt oddly foreign.
Just then, a knock sounded at his office door.
Zhang, his executive assistant, stepped in, carrying a stack of files that seemed to tower over him.
