She reminded her of a little girl from Jerrold's kindergarten days...
"Don't be nervous, Catherine, “ Lilah said warmly. "I invited you here today because I need your help with something."
"You know, Jerrold has been so focused on work all these years. At his age, other people's children are already in elementary school, yet he hasn't even shown a hint of interest in settling down."
"I know you've been working with him for some time now.
Both Jerrold and his assistant have spoken highly of you.
And honestly, I feel a sense of connection with you. That's why I wanted you to come over and help me with something.
"These are a few young women that his grandmother and I have found for him as potential matches. I thought we could discuss them together. What do you think?"Lilah began introducing the women one by one.
"This one is the daughter of the White family. She's just returned from abroad... “And this one is from the Hughes family. Her grandmother and Jerrold's grandmother share a close friendship... as is common in traditional family circles. What do you think, Catherine?"
When Catherine left the Harris estate, she wasn't sure how she had managed to walk out the door.
The midday sun bore down mercilessly, mirroring the heaviness in her heart. As she stumbled forward, the world seemed to darken around her. Her vision blurred, and she felt herself losing balance.
"Careful!"
A hand reached out to steady her. Catherine regained her footing and turned to see who had helped her. To her surprise, it was Zachary, the man who had clashed with Jerrold at the banquet and even conspired with Lily to undermine Jerrold.
"Miss Lee, you don't look well. Let me take you to the hospital for a checkup, " Zachary offered, his voice filled with concern.
Catherine pushed him away, wanting to reassure him that she was fine. But as soon as she moved, her vision darkened again.
This time, Zachary didn't wait for her reply. He scooped her up and placed her in the backseat of his car.
"To the hospital, " he instructed the driver.
An hour later, Catherine received her test results.
When she saw the diagnosis, she felt as though she'd been struck by Lightning.
She couldn't believe it-she was pregnant.
Holding the report in her trembling hands, Catherine stared at the words indicating she was nearly three months along.
It was utterly unexpected. That one night with Jerrold had changed everything.
Her periods had always been unpredictable, so she hadn't thought much of it when she missed her period.
Now, her mind was in turmoil.
What was she supposed to do about the baby?
