Jerrold seemed to be enjoying it a lot, though.
"Sweetie, I think I put too much salt in this dish. Let's not eat it,"
Lilah suggested.
"It's okay, Mommy. It doesn't taste salty at all. I'm eating it with the lettuce." Jerrold smiled at her sweetly.
Lilah felt her heart melting. Jerrold was indeed a little angel.
Jerrold then pointed out, “Also, you rarely cook. Just the fact that you know how to do so is already incredible."
Instead of looking down on her poor cooking skills, he was praising her.
His words moved Lilah deeply. "Don't worry. I'm going to cook more and get better at it."
It was then that the doorbell rang.
Lilah went to answer the door and saw Gerard standing outside.
As usual, he looked intimidating in his suit. He still had an apathetic expression on his face as he said in a serious voice, "I was busy earlier, so I didn't get to message you. Are you having dinner already?"
Lilah answered, “We just started. Go and wash your hands. I'll set your plate on the table."
After washing his hands, Gerard sat next to Lilah at the table.
Clearing her throat in embarrassment, Lilah remarked, "I put too much salt in this dish. You should try the other dishes."
"Hmm." Gerard grunted in response as he munched silently on the food in his mouth.
It was suddenly very awkward between them. Lilah was eating, but she could not taste the food.
Gerard's silence made it clear that he was upset.
Again, Lilah wondered why he had not talked to her about it.
Was it because he did not trust her?
She lost her appetite the longer she pondered the issue. When Gerard and Jerrold were done eating, Lilah started clearing the table. The two immediately got to their feet to help her.
“Mommy, you should take a rest. Leave everything to Daddy and me."
Jerrold looked up at her with kind eyes.
For a moment, Lilah temporarily forgot her problem. She smiled and said softly, “Why don't you go to the living room and watch some cartoons there? I want to talk to your dad."
Jerrold tilted his head to the side in curiosity. Instead of asking anything, however, he obediently went to the living room.
