It was the scene that greeted Gerard when he reemerged from the kitchen, having done washing the dishes. "I'll take him back to my apartment."
Gerard reached out to take Jerrold in his arms, but the boy tightened his hold on Lilah.
Lilah smiled and said, "It's fine. I don't mind if he sleeps with me tonight."
Gerard pressed his lips together as he glanced at Jerrold. He knew that the child was just pretending to be asleep, but in the end, he decided not to expose Jerrold's lie. "All right. If he hogs all the blankets, feel free to scold him."
“Sure. Anyway, let me see you off," Lilah said.
“No, I'm good. Go to bed early, okay?"
Once Gerard had left, Lilah carried Jerrold into her bedroom. Jerrold was just pretending to be asleep at first, but he eventually nodded off for real when Lilah started tapping his back gently.
Lilah stared at his sleeping face fondly. Fate was truly incredible.
After being dumped by a horrible man, she discovered someone much better. Most importantly, her child was still alive.
She planted a gentle kiss on Jerrold's forehead and said, "Good night, baby."
Jerrold slept soundly that night.
The same could not be said for his father, however.
Gerard was alone in the large apartment, and the thought of his girlfriend and his son sharing a bed while he slept alone in his bedroom frustrated him a lot.
It took a long time, but he eventually managed to doze off.
Jerrold enjoyed the experience so much that after that day, he continued to employ the same strategy to stay at Lilah's place every night.
Knowing that Jerrold did not want to go, Lilah invited him to stay every time, much to the child's delight. He fell asleep each night with his arm around Lilah, listening to her tell stories.
In just a week, Jerrold put on some weight. There was more fat in his arms, which made him look even more adorable.
Finally, Gerard had enough, and he started asking Jerrold to come back home every other day. He could not let the child spend the night at Lilah's place forever.
Jerrold knew his father missed him, so he gave in grudgingly.
Adaline and Iker's wedding was held as scheduled.
The Lewis and Phillips families wanted as many people as possible to pay attention to the wedding, so it was hosted in the most opulent venue possible, the Horizon Hotel.
When Adaline showed up in her white wedding dress, she immediately became the center of attention.
"Wow, Adaline looks amazing!"
"That wedding dress looks familiar. If my memory serves me right, it costs more than a million dollars."
