"Oh, my God! The Lewis family didn't hold back with the expenses at all."
"Iker and Adaline have been in a relationship for a long time. Of course, she'd wear an expensive wedding dress at their wedding.
They've set the bar for marriages between wealthy families. Adaline is really lucky. She won't have to worry about anything else once they're married."
Everyone in attendance gushed over the couple.
Adaline beamed as she basked in the attention she was receiving.
Lilah sat in the front row together with Helga's relatives.
It was strange that Lilah had never gotten along with Helga's family.
When Helga and Matthew got married, it was clearly not a mutually beneficial relationship. Word had it that Helga used to serve as Matthew's secretary before she got pregnant, and they got married.
ALL of Helga's relatives were from the countryside.
To attend this wedding in the posh five-star hotel, they wore their best clothes and jewelry, but they still looked like parvenus.
Truthfully, Adaline did not like her mother's relatives, but she did an excellent job hiding her distaste in her face. She frequently donated her out-of-season or unloved clothes to her cousins.
On the other hand, Lilah constantly encouraged her younger cousins to work hard in school since she believed they still had a long way to go. Whenever they visited the Phillips family's house in the past, she would take them to museums.
However, they were completely incapable of learning anything. Some even speculated that Lilah was trying to show off her intelligence.
Adaline's presents, though, were enthusiastically received. They were under the impression that Adaline was very kind to them, so they were doing everything they could to curry favor with her.
"Adaline and Mr. Lewis look so good together. I felt so bad for him in the past. He treated someone well back then, but he was betrayed.
Thankfully, he met Adaline," one of the cousins said in a voice dripping with mockery.
Upon hearing that, Lilah immediately thought of the baby Adaline was carrying. Her lips curled into a small smile. She wondered how Iker would react if he found out the truth.
She did not have to wait long. Soon, Iker would receive Lilah's scheduled email.
The cousin expected Lilah to show a regretful expression, so she was surprised when the other woman suddenly smiled. The cousin's temper flared up immediately. “Lilah, you're so cruel. Don't you feel guilty at all for what you did to Mr. Lewis?"
“If you don't know the truth, you should keep quiet. Or perhaps you should try asking them if it's me who's ashamed to face them or if it's the other way around." Lilah's cold smile gave her an imposing air.
The cousin went silent instantly.
It was at that time that Adaline's aunt approached them and asked, "Lilah, I heard that you were in a relationship with Gerard Harris.
Is that true?"
The cousin immediately muttered, "How is that even possible? Isn't Gerard the wealthiest man in Eleywood? Those rumormongers are relentless. Don't pay any attention to them, Mom."
